Just thought I would throw this up here. I have been wanting to get a new muffler for a while now. My dad took one look at it and said he could fabricate something for me. He is a master welder and can make or fix anything. (Does welding on the side)

Started with a stock muffler off my 07 XB9SX. Didnt want something too loud but with a little thump to it and wanted dual tips :)

Marked it for where we wanted to cut it down. Cut the back open to see what all is inside.

Then we went to the auto parts store and got 2 exhaust tips. They were $7 each. Cut 2 holes and started lining up and getting the angle of the tips correct.

My dad got everything all welded up and then hung it up to prep and prime it.

Primer dry and now time for high temp black paint.

Got back down to my shop after the paint was dry and started to install it back on my bike. Everything went back on pretty easy with no problems.

Finally here is a short vid of it idling. I think it sounds pretty good, of course it sounds better in person than on the video.

Here is another vid of it revved up a bit. (My dad thought my bike was gonna fall over :p)

I did ride it down the street for a bit, sounds great while riding it, not too loud, and not too quiet. Def sounds pretty tough!

So for hardly any money and not too much fab work we came up with a great sounding muffler. I know I will most likely need a tune now since I also put in a K&N filter just a few weeks ago.

If anyone has any questions let me know. Thanks for looking.

Looks and sounds great! Your dad does good much.

Do you still have the stock air filter? If you do I'd toss it back in until you get the fuel mapping worked out. It'll run pretty lean now, but putting the stock filter back in will help restrict some of the airflow.

Still not as loud as your dads vmax though, it does sound louder than mine

Thanks all. I just tossed my stock filter in the trash :/ But I wont be riding for a while, we have a winter storm coming today and its just too crappy out to ride. I know some people that can get me a tune :)

I wasnt able to take any more vids. Started snowing here and got crappy. Will take some as soon as its nice again. [up]

Cool. Almost like a cheap hawk pipe! I think I would rather pay the $200 to send it to Hawk tho. He makes the pipe shorter, (lighter) And I believe Randy also tunes your ecm if you send it along with the pipe.

Cool DIY tho! Your pops has mad skills!

Thanks, but why send it to someone else when I can have it done for almost nothing and I'm sure its just as well built as Hawks. My pipe is also shorter if you were to look at the pics. Got nothing against the Hawk, they sound great, I was going to buy one. Just trying to save some $$...

I here ya. I thought about cutting into mine. I was sold on hawk just because of the ecm reset deal tho.
