Been searching around but honestly haven't found too much on this. My 2000 X1 Lightning is all stock to my knowledge. As it sits, it is way too tall for me to foots it around in parking lots.

I know you can lower the front forks some..which should mirror how much I lower the back. However with no dogbones, how do you lower the rear?

I also know shaving the seat can help..but there isn't that much pad to be honest, to begin with.

Do they make a "lowered version" of the X1?

Links to any and all recommended parts will be great!

I'm 5'4" @ 130lbs btw lol

They made a M2L - M2"Low"... Do you know if you have a 16.5" or updated 14.5" shock? If you have a 16.5" shock you will need the newer 14.5" front shock mount to use this shock. This shock will fit your X1

Also, there was a company.. something TEK i believe that made a front shock mount that was a little longer and lowered the bike. As far as i know they dont make it anymore. I see them from time to time on badweb for sale.

others have homemade front adjustable mounts

How much could I sell my shock with 15k miles on it?

And I notice it has threads towards the back...which way would I move the lock ring to lower it? Towards the front to expose more threads or to the back to cover them?

I'll have to measure it to see if it's one of the two sizes you mentioned.

Thanks!

here is some info on the M2L shock

you can tell the difference between the shock lengths just by looking at them... they physically look different. You would have the middle or bottom one on an X1.... If you have the bottom one, then the M2L shock would bolt right on. If you have the middle, you would need to get the later model front shock mount.

I do not think there is much if any height adjustment on the factory shock. I have a penske so i dont know.

It looks like I have the 14.7...why would that be on my stock '00? Or do you think the PO installed that?

yes, looks like you have the latest shock... there were many problems with the middle shock leaking.

so, you should be go to go to bolt on an M2L shock which will lower the rear of the bike some. Then you will have to slide your fork tubes up a little. Going to hit your handlebars though after a little. I forget how far they will move up.

I looked yesterday and it seemed to be about half an inch. Lol. Something is better than nothing I suppose.

Also, how should I adjust the front and rear shock settings for a light (130lb) rider? It's super stiff right now.

not sure what to change for setting for a rider of your weight... if you PM your email i can send you a copy of the X1 manual. It has everything is there.

if you need to lower the front end more you can put bar risers on... problem is, no one makes a riser that works with the X1 dash.... but Jolly on Badweb is and looks like he is making a few.... looks nice, will move your bars up allowing you to lower the front a little more, and also allows to run 1 1/8" bars.

How much do y'all think I could sell my nice condition 14.7" shock? Or is there anyone you'd think be willing to trade?

American Sportbike used to sell a lowering bracket made by Westek ( I think that who it is) When I had my S1 and my M2 That is where I got the bracket from. So that will lower the rear.
As for the front, just loosen the triple clamp and slip the fork tubes up a bit. The only problem is the handle bars are in the way, and limit ant big adjustment. Again on my other bike I had I swapped to clip-on bars and that gave me a lot more room to lower the front. I did not effect the bikes handling much. And the Clip-ons really helped to give the bikes a more aggressive riding position. Hope this helps.

Yes it does. Do you have any links for cheapish clipons? I'd like a more aggressive style anyways..

I got mine from ASB, But have seen cheaper ones on airtech streamlining, and you can try ebay. Here are some old pics ( about 10 years ago) of my M2 with the clip-ons. I just slipped the forks up, and install the clip-on to the fork tubes. Then reinstalled the original handle bar clamp since it also was the mount for the dash.

Wish I still had that bike. Did alot to it. And yes I know I look like a TARD! But like I said the pic is 10 years ago.

Yeah I just checked Airtech, they have them, but not in the 54mm. But ASB has them. As far as the lowering bracket. I dont see it on the site so you may need to call them. Also that bracket was made by either westeck or Banke.
