You have to start some where.

Yeah true, but if you dont have a natural aptitude or guidance from the beginning youre gonna really screw up.
IE: I wont be sky-diving on my own anytime soon, ill get some background/training first.
When working on your motorcycle, the outcome is the same as the skydiing senerio, youre probably gonna die.

I mean if i am try to replace the rear shock and expect the bike to not move after i remove the shock I'd feel like an idiot. He had to imagine what the bike would do by removing a huge bolt at the top of the frame.

Again, it comes down to his intentions...
