by the race bug. Went to the local track last Sunday for the races and they have one more track day scheduled so I told the wife I was gonna go and then proceeded to list all the things I'd need to do to my 08 Scg in preparation. Then she says to me "why don't you just buy another bike to race so you don't have to worry about trashing your street bike when you wreck?" SHE'S SO SMART. So now I'm in the market for another bike, it doesn't have to be pretty or street legal and there's a 9R local here but my only concern is that it's too cheap for an 06 with less than 6k even if it's been wrecked and has a salvage title. I'd totally LOVE to build that thing for the track.

Open for commentary.

If I was you I'd get either an SV650 or a Jap 600 for the track. The reasons are they are everywhere so parts will be easier and cheaper to get and you can find one already tracked out for pretty reasonable prices. I ride with a bunch of track guys and when you go down it sucks when there is another track day and you are still tracking Buell parts to get your bike back up. I love my Buells but I would never take them to the track for this reason. Plus when you start getting good and everyone is flying by you on the straights you are gonna wish you had something quicker. I actually got my Buell from a guy that tracked it and that was his problem. Once he got good in the corners he could still never catch up to anyone because they would take him on the straights so he went to a CBR600 and sold me his Buell. May not be that bad in beginner class but once you get up to I you will see it.

Lol, yes, she has two sisters, one is married and they just had their first baby. There's a younger sister but all she likes to do is drink and party :D

Thanks for the input fellas, I agree Jap parts are more readily available and I had considered a Jap 600 to track but all my bike wrenching experience is American twins so I'd have to learn from scratch. Besides, like I said, I'd totally love to smoke some of those Jap bikes on an XB :)

Then there's this one which I was skeptical about til I looked up the NADA ($3500-4600) so with a salvage title it's priced about right at $3000. Although I admit I don't know **** about Triumphs

Lol, not that I'm aware of, but 20 yrs ago when I was 24 that's about all I did too. And you're as young as you feel and most days I feel like I'm 100. Hit the clubs around Columbus, OH and I'm sure you'll run into her eventually. Her name is Leigh and she's blonde, about 5'5", 120 lbs. GL

(I think I may have just pimped out my sis-in-law)

yup the daytona 675 is untouchable on the track the inline triple has been perfected by triumph. parts are available cheap you still get some exotic feel out if it as most riders are only aware of 6 bikes yamaha honda suzuki kawasaki and ducati my mom has the street tripple which is the same motor on a naked bike. i rode it and fell in love handels like my buell and in the straits it just rips. i would go with the trumpet any day of the week

Just watch your shifting on the track with the 675. I had a friend take his out on his first track day and blew his motor. He downshifted to much and overrevved the hell out of it. I have another friend that runs a 675 and loves it for the track. He is a die hard Triumph guy has the 675 for track and a Speed Triple for street. Should be a great track bike.

Well then, it appears I have a new mission lol. Now, with that said and being that I've already admitted that I don't know **** about Triumphs, which 675? Daytona? Daytona R? Street? Any particular year?

I'd stick to my original plan and do an XBR. The speed triples are nice, but not better handling, and you've already shown a propensity for the XB...

I clubbed raced Ninja 600's and GSXR750's (and even a TL1000R...) in the wild and crazy 90's, and I can tell you this much: at first, horsepower does not equal lower lap times on a track. I remember thinking my Ninja 600 was fast, kicking a*s all over Katana 600's and GPz550's...then promptly getting smoked by these crazy kids on 125 GP bikes... Lol!

You'll learn all about smoothness, braking, and lean angle. And it won't scare you to death... My .02
