so I feel the need to vent after finding this in my "brand new" western digital my book essential 2 TB external Harddrive.

Apparently walmart didn't notice that someone had taken it apart and replaced the 2 TB WD drive with this 320 GB seagate. DUMBASSES

I'm going to take it back and tell them it didn't work, I don't think I'm buying any electronics there anymore.

You will get that everywhere. A friend of mine bought a ATI video card from best buy only to find out it was a sound blaster sound card from the 90's because geek squad couldnt tell the difference when it was returned. So advice never take a computer to the geek squad.

I'm slightly more than pissed about this. This is why I buy from newegg or tiger

Number 1 lesson in life: People are dicks.

+1 on newegg. If I have the time to wait for something I'll buy it from newegg at every opportunity.

This isn't "Walmarts" fault - it's one of their employees not checking the item when it had been returned originally... That's like swearing off on all McDonald's because one idiot employee got your order wrong - THE company policy is for that stuff to be checked, but like Larry says, "You can't fix stupid."

Yeah technically it's all the douche bags' faults who return that crap like that. I think it's referred to as the "walmart swap". Unfortunately the employees don't know that that's not the right part. In some instances (like this) the probably should be able to read and acknowledge it's incorrect, but other times it probably is difficult to know right off the bat. I don't like walmart but just because it's so damn crowded all the time, it's like an amusement park trying to get around in there...but damn it's so convenient, and often inexpensive....argh
