So I've been toying with an idea lately about lasers. I want to mount a laser somehow and run it on a mirror path that goes around the rims. (not entirely sure this will be legal at all)
This idea stems from those mirror games where you have to make the laser follow a path.

While this sounds like it would look absolutely amazing (freaking wicked imagination you've got there man) .... My only (somewhat) helpful input is, Gotta be careful with lasers man... If something were to happen to one of those mirrors and it were to deflect off the rims say... Into another drivers eye?..... Could have a potential problem on your hands.. And I'm pretty sure anything using visible light spectrum lasers while on the road is going to be questionable....

Careful man... Lol

It would be mainly used at bike nights, but if I forgot them on it could be bad.

True dat .... Lol

Of course the laser beam itself is invisible ... so that picture you posted above would NOT be what something like that would look like on your bike ... I don't know if you already knew that or not, just throwing that out there ...

It's actually kinda funny that his name is Negative, but sadly he is correct.

Edit: It shows up on cameras because it is an exposure, It is a "light trail" if you will. Like when you can't hold your hand still and all the streetlights at night are the letter "C". "Z" if it was a really good night.

you would need a fog machine or a good drizzle for the beam to have something to refract itself through. Otherwise it will be a single point of energy that won't show any color until it is stopped. Killer Imagination though, for real.

I would try something like this:
LED Flexible light rope
LED Neon light rope.

Just have to figure out a power supply if it is on the wheels.

Hahaha!!... The screen name might be Negative but I most certainly am not... =)

I used to work in a production plant with LOTS of class 4 lasers around... So you would expect it to be like a constant rave party going on up in there... But Squeadlies hit the nail on the head... Even if the laser was in the visible light spectrum (like a laser pointer is) you'd need to line your rim with prisms to refract the light out for people to see it... And even then, they are not good to stare at... I personally think this speaks very highly of your imagination, but I still have to say it's probably just one of those things that's good in theory but probably not as good in practice...

Squeadlies pointed out some excellent alternatives though to give you a similar effect than what you were originally looking for man.... either way... Sounds like your bike has some interesting and unique upgrades in store for it... Don't forget to take pics and share!!

I actually have a ton of that light rope in various colors. I'm just thinking on more of a line where there would be no wires running from the rest of the bike and I could independently power so that there is no change of tangling up around the rim.

How about painting the wheel with some "glow in the dark" paint and mounting UV leds inside the fender to keep the paint energized as you ride down the road?

I've thought about the glow paints as well, and I have seen that the UV lights work really well since they are on my brother's bike. my only concern would be how durable that paint is. I'll probably try it at some point regardless of the durability.

They had some kind of EL wheel light kit that was listed up on here a few weeks ago ... but it was UNGODLY expensive for what you were actually getting IMO ... :\
