If anyone could take a quick pick of their gas cap on the bottom side and a pic of where it goes in on the frame that would be sweet.

Hope this helps
my 2009 XB12SS

oh yeah and you pictures are better then mine too

I think you can get a key from the dealer with your VIN.... You may need to show proof of ownership...

Yea went through that whole process the ignition must have been swithched out by original owner. My ignition has been at a local locksmith for over two weeks now and he cant figure it out. I have been riding without it but I need to get gas cap off to fill it up. I could fill it through the vent but long rides are out of the question.

you'll probably have to buy another ignition and have the cap re-keyed to match the new set. GOOD LUCK

FYI,
On the tubers, the cap was a generic key, any barrel key would open it. Though I don't know if that has been changed for the XB Series

No offense if you like the guy, but I think it's time to find a new locksmith. If your only concern is getting the thing out, any professional locksmith should have you taken care of in under an hour. (I wouldn't recommend watching though, it's kind of scary. I had to have the ignition lock pulled on my car before. Seeing a guy go after your car/bike with a drill and slide hammer can be traumatizing.)

All a competent locksmith would have to do is look at the keyway and pick it open. Unless there is proprietary hardware in the lock then it should not be to difficult to pick.

Just my 2 centavos.

Agreed.

I was watching one of those "repo" shows. The guy picked the lock for the door on a motorhome in about 10 seconds, then MADE an ignition key from scratch in about 30 seconds! DAMN!
