Icon motorcycle backpack

Good gear to have if you are a military guy, the base rules that the Marine Corps has are dumb and make you feel the need to be in a cacoon of hunters orange.

I love the way that Icon pack's chest unclips for easier on/offs. I sport the Ogio Less Drag for now. The helmet carrier stores in a "hidden" underside zipper pocket.

I have this backpack.

LOVE IT
- The zip together straps are great!! Shoulders hardly get tired with heavy loads on long rides. And the bag doesn't shift around during aggressive cornering.

Great visibility during night!

Al around everything you can ask for in a motorcycle bag!!

Onelogue what's it like walking around with a helmet in the under-side storage compartment? Looked like the position of it might be awkward?

Had a friend who bought one, 2 months later the shoulder strap became unstitched, so he got another one and it did the same thing again within 2 months. he says they are crap, so I have never bought one (I work on base). he may just be really rough with it, I dont know.

I think it is a little over the top unless you are on base. I like Icon stuff, but this might be too much

I agree with afinley. I ordered one from the "superstore" and had it less than an hour before I sent it back. It's more suited to summiting Mt Everest or going on Safari.

That's the second or third time I have heard of those bags coming apart. I nearly picked one up this time last year but they only had orange at the time, and when they came out with the black ones I had already picked up a Swiss gear. Maybe I'll buy a no drag instead. I know I am hard on my bags so I won't waist my time on it.

Thanks for the heads up Fish.

BTW the Air Force and Army are all about orange too. Not sure about the navy. Were any of you Marines in when the spirtbike school was put into play? Was it any good?

None of our safety folks on Langley AFB said anything about color, I wear a yellow vest and it has never been questioned at all.

I got my hands on one of these backpacks at the IMC in DC this past weekend...the build seemed very sturdy (although I would ditch the arm straps, they seem worthless), it felt like this backpack would be able to take a lot of abuse. I'll pick one of these up eventually, will make it easier when I need to carry something instead of wearing my reflective vest with a messenger bag over it.

I like those Icon bags, but damn they are expensive.. I have a Swiss-gear that was given to me by their rep that handles our account (I work for Dell and we resell Swiss-gear laptop bags and backpacks). You would not believe the margin these companies get from these bags.. mine resells for like $105, but it only costs Swiss-Gear something like 8 bucks to make!

Last I saw those ICON bags are going for like $150???

I've got a pair of Oakley backpacks from when I worked at corporate. Reliable as a brick and look good too![up]

Tyndall said that they "prefer" the orange (meaning that every time you went through the gate in yellow or green they would say something) because SF wore green and the flight line did yellow.

most of the army MP's we had on base were all about orange too.

granted the AFI says it needs to be a high viz color and reflective.

Eagle - they are $125 at all of the online stores I looked, with free shipping. The guy at the IMC offered to let me take his last yellow one for $90 cash...but the wife put the smack down and said no. :(

Delta - That makes sense...they probably just want something they can give a hard time to anyone about... ;)

Nice product forsure. I do big trips on my 9S and I bought a Camelbak camping pack. I load it down with anywhere between 20-40lbs worth of stuff and can ride comfortable with it. It doesn't flop around in the wind like my last bag and it distributes the weight very well. Another kickass feature that I like cause I will ride without stopping until I need gas(around 150miles without getting off) is the watering system that Camelbak is known for.
