Wondering if anyone has ever experienced this...
I started my bike and as always let it warm up idleing in netural on the kick stand... I went inside to put on my gear and my bike shut off, i ran outside to see my baby on its side... when i picked it up it was in first gear.....
damage, broken cluch lever, left blinker, left foot peg, bent shift lever and scratched frame puck and bar end.... totally bumbed out, as my bike was minty condtion... I know it could have been worse, but its still killing me... its a 2009 with 7000km on it....
want to bring it back to mint condition, and i will never leave it idleing without me on it ever again.

Same thing happened to my 06 lightning yesterday morning. Started it up let it idle for a couple minutes in my driveway, went to grab my helmet and it fell over. Broke the clutch lever, bar end mirror, footpeg and bent my shifter. I thought it happened because my driveway has a very slight slope to it and I had my bike facing downwards. I also think I didn't rock it back on the kickstand so it was standing up pretty straight. Either way I was pissed because I just put new handlebars on it the night before but luckily it didn't bend em.

Man I have never heard of this happening before but I am not letting mine sit and idle any more without me on it. Thank you for thinking to share this. No telling how many people you are helping. Seriously.

I real doubt it could just slipped into gear, more likely to have been knocked into gear as it hit the ground like riceetr said.

I don't let mine idle without me being near it,dropped on it's side not long after I bought it,so I always have eyes on it now.

I'm not normally on my bike when I start it up. I usually let it warm up and have frequently walked away from it. Not again! I have noticed it sliding down the driveway an inch at a time while it idles but its always facing uphill, vibrating itself backward.

yea if it kicked itself in gear, i find that possibly being a recal or law issue. it most likely kicked into gear when it fell. they do move alot and the kickstands have been known to fail.

I don't step away from my bike unless there is someone there. Most mornings I start the bike and have my son put his foot on the kick stand (to hold it in place) while I gear up for the ride to work....

Thanks for all the replys... The reason I think it slipped in gear is it was in first gear... When it fell over it bent the shifter upwards which would have put it in second if the drop had of caused the shift... and wouldnt it be still running with the rear wheel spinning since there was no resistance as it was off the ground...

Thing is, you never know what happens during a fall... They "creep" substantially in neutral, and as others have shared (and one other has mentions his own tip over), it is commonly observed that they do.
