I was setting my suspension, and decided to check out the air filter.....this is what I found. What is this supposed to be doing?

The bike seems to run great.

I can't trace it so I don't know what it's hooked to. All I know is it is not hooked up at this end.

Must be this thing gets disconnected when you install a Jardine?
I can't find the other end of that cable.

Yes no actuator in a Jardine or many other aftermaket pipes. I removed the cable all together as well as the servo, Weight reduction YEAH

If you unplug and remove it you will get a check engine light. You can remove it but you'll have to disable the servo with ecmspy or you can go on ebay or americansportbike and order the "exhaust valve emulator"http://www.ebay.com/itm/BUELL-XB12-Exhaust-Valve-Emulator-2003-2009-model-/271003523575?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f191199f7&vxp=mtr

Thanks for the information.

But it's fine as is for now right?

I'm getting a K&N, axle-sliders, frame-pucks, and black header wrap next paycheck.

Should I add some breather holes when changing my filter, or is that an aftermarket airbox top?

Don't chuck that actuator, you can probably sell it later to someone with a stock pipe. I already purchased a used one when mine wore out.
