Any recommendations for a performance coil for a 2006 Ss? I see from the shop manual that I'm looking for something from 0.5-0.7 ohms on the primary and 5500-7500 on the secondary.

Is there anything from the sportster that's compatible? I can't find anything useful online for buell, and specs are pretty slim on custom parts.

Any help much appreciated.

Yes custom parts in the area you mention is somewhat hard to find. Actually the buells ign., is really good for a street machine. Unless you are figuring on Drag Racing it. Most V Twins in the Harley Industry are related when it comes to the Small parts like coils/Bolts/etc..
Jims may have what you need.
they have the Tools and many other items for Buells and All Harley Davidsons' I myself use a Stock Ign., system on my 09 XB12R race bike and seems to do a great job.
Remember Erik Buell is A good innovator not to mention a Bike Racer so I figure he was thinking make sure to build something simple and easy to fix. Keep them riding. You would need to get a parts manual to compare the same years of bikes if you want to do the part swaping thing.
You would be better off to stick to Buell parts. What you can do is go to a Hopefully Buell Friendly Dealer when you get SAY a Stator/or starter will fit. There are some parts the Sportster shares around the inner areas / the Engine and Transmission. However the Buells especially bikes Lower Engine parts are stronger (crankshaft)and Buells are the TorQue monsters the Sporsters are not.
There are Cruisers and Sport riders . You will need to do some homework on the innerchangealility for swapping parts. Your best bet would be to put Buell related parts on your Bike, for now they will bolt right on. After you get to riding start finding a crossover book and good luck on that.
Most likely a good relationship with a parts counter at a Buell friendly dealership will help you to find out that and make sure to take notes cause the Dealer changes the parts numbers nearly every year. Good Luck. *Jimi

Oh BTW- Welcome to the Forum. Look around on the Forum and I'm sure you will find something that will help you in the future while working on your bike. I work on Bikes and I have found that usually for Longer Lasting for a Stock Engine the OEM parts usually will hold up longer. Drag Racing is a different animal altogether. *Jimi

i went with genuine buell (coil) and HD parts. What a difference - when people say they can tell the difference, it's usually subtle, but this was crazy different. So much smoother at idle, acceleration, etc if these bikes could ever be considered "smooth" at low speeds! lol I was going to drop it off at Paradise in Tigard to have it "run through" and a tune up, but seeing the state of the parts myself when replacing just some of the ignition stuff, might as well just buy and replace what I can and save myself some diagnostic labor from the dealership...

I hope the big things hold out. I'm guessing that with 18k, I might as well just start stocking up month by month on all the really fun stuff: various bearings, motor mount, etc... I'll take a look at the forum for other major maintenance that needs to be done.

It'll be a fun winter... What great cycles, it's been a blast.
