So, Its time for my oil change, and I feel completly comfortable doing it except, I dont have a torque wrench so I wont know how many footpounds of pressure im putting on the drain bolt. A buddy said just do it then putt it down to the stealership and have them tighten it. Should I break down and buy one or do you guys have a better solution. Sorry if this is a dumb question im new to doing my own mechanics.

Go to your local parts shop....autozone/advance/oreilly's most of them have a loan a tool program in place where you put down a deposit and when you bring the tool back you get the deposit back. Why buy tools you don't always need when you have an opportunity like that? Hope I've been of some assistance.

1. if you are going to do it yourself every service, best is to buy one.
2. if you're doing it yourself this one time, do it on feel. don't go placing your whole wait or power on it, just tighten it.

I never use one and I never have leaks. Just don't overtighten that is all. When it gets pretty tight stop. You do have to keep it somewhat tight so it won't vibrate loose.

I don't think you should go by the torque spec in the manual either. Many people have stripped theirs out because the spec in the book is too high

Use a wrench to tighten it down ounce you can no longer tight with one fingure iI go a 1/4 to a 1/2 turn more ond never have had i problem. Good luck ride safe.

Always wear your Gear

2+ that....just seat the threads tight and a 1/4 turn. The gasket will do all the work. I actually use Thread sealer on mine also.
