Im going to pain my scoops.

A few months ago someone ran into my bike and knocked it over. Their car hit my custom RSS, so i had to do some custom body work to it and its almost like new, except ive got to paint it still, so im going to do something i have thought about for a long time. I am going to paint both scoops white to match my plastics with a blue pin stripe. So here is the before pic, and tomorrow or the next day i will post the after. It will give the illusion that the scoops and air box cover are connected under the frame.

Good luck matching the color. I went to an auto parts store and tried to match it as best as I could, but it's still a little of. If you can get a custom color match it would be best.

I am pretty sure you can get a computer color match at body shop paint stores. You need a small piece as a target but I have had great results using computer matches. I want to paint my Uly scoops Blue, I think it would cool also.

Ok, there is no backing out now!! I got one primered and drying and the other one I did some finalizing JB weld work. So I hope to be able to primer that one tonight as well. I will paint the left side tonight.

I told my girl who was a little skeptical, if it turns out that it does not look like i think it will, i still have a spray can of OEM frame paint black, i will use that to repaint them, but im pretty sure its going to look good.

Ok, i ****** up the first time and im redoing it all over again. So this time im going to take it a lot slower and make sure my primer is nice and dry first. Im pretty sure it was, but im not 100% sure it was. Anyway I messed it up and i learned from my mistake, i hope. ARRGGG!

One other thing, i wish Buell would have made an optional RSS because their LSS is great! Its a little heavy, but its made very durable.

I remember a picture of one of our european friends Buell that had the scoops painted to match the plastics and it looked great ! I like it. [up]
Is that an old Triumph in the background of your pic ?

Color Rite is pretty good at matching colors.
I have a few touch up tubes from them.

But seriously, I think that would look great on your bike. And as far as painting/JB weld/anything that needs set or dry time; you need to wait, or you will be doing it again. Patience is a virtue, I also have learned this the hard way.

Yes, that is an old Triumph in the back ground, i took that pic at a friends house and he has a ton of old vintage cars and trucks and vans, mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles. All vintage and interesting ****..


We im done painting and im working on a clear coat now. This time everything went so much better. The next two days are going to be rainy and ****** so I will let the scoops cure and dry until this weekend. So either Sat or Sun I will finish up and post pics. Im soo glad i took on this project its teaching me a lot!!!
