Hey, Im pretty stumped right now. A few months ago I purchased the amazing Keda RT-4 exhaust, along with the EBR ECM to match. After the install I allowed the 10 mins for the IAC to learn the new exhaust and I did the TPS reset. I had also installed a K&N air filter. Well took it out for a spin and go some serious popping on deceleration. I did a leak check on the exhaust while the pipes were hot and it was not leaking. So I contacted Dean and he advised me to try the stock air filter so I did, and still it pops. So its been doing it now for sometime, but driving me crazy. Even when I cruise at 35-40 mph in 2nd or 3rd at 4k-5k rpm it pops! I checked for intake leak today, it was all good. Checked the IAC breather tube and it was good. Not really sure where to head next. O2 sensors all check good on the Diagnostic screen.

I just hope that I'm not doing damage to the bike. Am I missing something? Checked the throttle bodies and they are good; nice and tight throttle cable, no binding. Should I try to clean the IAC?

somebody else with some more ecmspy knowledge will chime in but to me it sounds like you need to adjust your fuel maps.

If you have an otherwise healthy engine, the popping is completely normal and not causing any damage. But if it bothers you, there are several ways to "fix" it.

1. One way is to reduce fueling on deceleration. This is the most common method as it will also enhance the engine braking effect. There is a fine line to walk, though, because take away too much fuel and you will get a choppy return when rolling back on the throttle (think going around a curve and rolling on the throttle). You may also notice a bit "rougher" transition between RPMs when cruising at low speeds/throttle, although correcting this is just a matter of finesse. On my own bike, it took several rounds of modification to find the sweet spot. Know that the factory tuned our bikes for the best compromise between driveability and engine braking, so a person will be deviating from that to lessen the popping. I imagine EBR ECMs are tuned for a more aggressive braking effect. In your case you may just need a little more.

There are several ways to reduce the fueling. One is by directly altering the fuel maps for your deceleration zones (ex: no throttle and RPMs above 1350). I suggest data logging if you go this route to be sure you hit the correct cells. Note that "no throttle" does not equate to "no load".
The other is to reduce the "Deceleration Correction" parameter. For example, if it defaults to 96%, try 94%. This Deceleration Correction value is much easier to test and try, but altering the fuel maps gives you the most fine tuning control, if you know what you're doing. Also, there may be a maximum amount of time that the Decel. Correction stays active, even if "decel" is still occurring, though I cannot confirm. In all the logs at my disposal, I haven't observed more than 3.5 - 4 seconds of time but this is due to rider habits for all I know.

2. The other way is to -add- fuel in your deceleration zone (via opposite of the methods listed above), but this method is much more difficult to do properly. Also, you lose most of your engine braking capability and will notice a slower return to idle when the throttle is closed. Not what most people want.

Can your EBR ECM be modified?

FYI: there are a few other engine tuners on the forum. ich has a lot of knowledge if you can catch him.

Awesome! So what program do you recommend I use? Ive heard alot about ECMspy and Tunerpro but I have a Macbook and I know Tunerpro will not work. I emailed EBR to see if they would check the ECM incase maybe there was an incorrect map installed. I just hope it doesn't cost a ton. How do I know if my EBR ECM can be modified? I purchased the one that was made for the exhaust.

Haha, I'm fairly new to tuning. I definitely understand the basics and principles of it. Now other "super-tuners", how are they able to help out besides some wisdom without actually seeing my bike? This is all pretty cool, I know I'm having issues with my bike but it's cool that you can tweak things like this. Real interested to learn about tuning.

ECMSpy for Mono is an awesome program, and so is Tunerpro RT. I use both, but I run Windows.

If you bought the "Preprogrammed" EBR ECM that cost $305, then I am unsure. This is where I am hoping someone on the forum with an EBR pre-programmed ECM can confirm. ECMSpy for Mono shows as having support for two EBR ECMs with IDs B3R1D and B3R3D. With the cable and the unregistered version of ECMSpy, you can check the ECM's ID to see if it will be supported. Instructions are at the ECMSpy link above.
BEFORE purchasing ECMSpy, I would double-check with [email protected] that their software will work with your ECM.

Surely someone has tried this already though...

Yea it is the pre programmed one. I talked to EBR about it and there is nothing they can do since the ecm is for an RT3 exhaust and i have an RT4 exhaust. So I guess that the ECMspy is all I can use.
