I have a 9sl, and once I track down the parts I'm hoping to replace my suspension with one that's the normal length. My bike is due for inspection soon and I just started to wonder what I'll have to do if I swap forks on my bike. Are shops required to put the stickers on the fork leg, or is that just where they always happen to stick them? I was wondering if i might be able to get them to put the sticker on my frame right behind the forks, just so it's not an issue when I find new forks.

Any of you guys swapped forks on your bike that had to deal with this?

I wasn't sure if I'd have any problems taking it back to get inspected again for a new sticker because I know they're not supposed to inspect a bike within 90 of when the inspection is actually due. I'm sure if I just took it somewhere else they wouldn't know anyway, but at the same time if I later decide I want to go back to my low suspension, I'll have to do it all over again.

Don't know about PA, but in VA they normally put them on the left fork but anywhere visible on the left side of the bike is technically legal. I made a stainless plate for mine that I mount to the left side of the swingarm.

tell them to give you the sticker cause your getting new forks very soon and they probley will. Or ask them to hold it for you and come back when you get new forks. Or shave it with a razor very carefully and put it on the new forks with clue. Or take a jig or dremmel and cut out hte peice of metal that has the sticker and jb weld it to your new forks. Or just carry the old forks everywhere you go in a back pack. LOL, that would be funny. Or just carry the old forks and when you get pulled over hit the cop in the face with them and take off. YAY!

:D

I thought about just pulling the sticker off, but I wasn't too sure how well they come off. I figure that's the kinda thing the state would buy easily ripping stickers for, just so I couldn't take in a clean bike, get it inspected, then take it hope and put the sticker on something no where near legal.

Even if it has to be on the front fork, maybe I can make a little plate that bolts to the front fork, or even see if the sticker will fit on the front fender between the bolts. I'll just have to see what the guy will do when I take my bike in.

I would just tell them your situation about getting new suspension soon and ask if they could place it on the frame. In Missouri it just has to be visible on frame or front forks

I live in Virginia & must be on left side so viewed as police passes , but mine is on a chrome plate mounted to left side of bike. The dealer here did this when I bought the bike and as a norm do it on all the bikes they sell. Makes the look much cleaner.

I need to pay attention next time I get out to bike night where the choppers have it. I feel like if there's anyone who would've figured out a solution, it would be the guys with the 5 foot long chrome forks. I can't remember if they just plaster one on the fork leg, or if they've come up with somewhere creative for it.

Yup. I'm in VA. It just has to be visible from the left side. I've got a stainless plate bolted to the place where the left air scoop/back screw is. The plate is forward of the bolt, kinda bent out, like it's own air scoop for the rear cylinder.

If the sticker is "out", remove it :p "they" don't notice. Unless your stopped for some other reason.
