I'm gunna install my race exhaust on my xb12s. I have a stock pipe on it with the valve hooked up. What is the process for installing the race pipe. I'm gunna use stock ECM for now, can I just unhook the cable? Will it still run unhooked or do I have to reset something with ECM spy..? Thanks!

Load races is from buellmods.com, should automatically disable the valve, otherwise it can be turned off in ecmspy

You can also only remove the cable from the "servo", but have to leave the "servo" connected, otherwise you will have a check engine light ...

Basically I just want to put the race pipe on. What will it take..I unplug the muffler valve...and reset something in ECM spy? Not quite sure how to. I'll try to find my PDF manual

It won't throw a code as long as the actual servo is still plugged into the connector. The actual cable doesn't have to be hooked up. The guy I bought my bike off of left the cable tied up and the servo plugged in and it never threw a check engine light

Thanks zero, it's just been confusing me lol I'll just undo it from the exhaust point, and tie it to the new muffler then

I just unhooked the cable and took it out left the servo connected under airbox. But I do also have race ECM.

Load your eeprom in ECMSpy and find the Error Masks section, check the box for the exhaust valve a burn the eeprom back to the bike. This disable's the self-diagnostic associated with the exhaust valve. Self-test wont run, which means no CEL and you can completely remove the system, servo and all.

I'm sorry, but how many times did I say the same thing over? Turn it off in the ECM, and if you're installing a race exhaust you should just load the race maps anyways

Sorry xb9rs, I just don't understand and don't wanna mess with the ECM, that's why I'm taking it to the Harley shop Wednesday. Won't run. I just wanted to know if I can unplug it and let it hang. I don't want to load race maps onto it yet, might buy a race ECM instead later.
Appreciate the help! Everyone!

No need to get upset xb9rs... just adding a little detail to what you had already said... well actually, just how to turn it off without the race map.

Good of you to offer to do it remotely tho, really is the way to go moto, race ecm would be a waste of $$ imo

No I appreciate what he said, I just didn't fully understand it lol I just wanted to know about the valve not maps. But I guess I could have someone fix the maps...just wont do it myself, it already runs like crap right now. Thanks to you both [up]

If you got the race pipe, the map will be a good fit. All you'd physically have to do if xb9rs helps you remotely, is turn the idle adjuster during the tps reset. Really easy, if he can help you out with it go for it... way better then giving cash to H-D for sure

All you need is the cable, ecmspy, and have Internet on the computer. I will have you download a program that will let me to remotely control the computer, I can upload the maps that way as then we can reset the tps. I can probably do so tomorrow after work if you're available.

Hmm I have all that, but lemme think about it. I'm gunna take it to Harley first and see what they find. Resetting tps and such has not worked thus far. I will let you know after Wednesday what's going on. I really appreciate that offer man [up]
