intake seals

I've used the Sil-Glyde on the intake seals. I didn't like how it baked on. I did the seals again with the blue seals and used Hylomar sealant per Mike Cobb's suggestion. It's a bit messy but its rated for 250*c. I don't think I've passed that temp yet. Very satisfied so far.

BTW, I bought a 10 pack of seals on amazon for a few bucks more than a pair at Dennis Kirk

I know this is an older thread but....

I got my bike apart doing a bunch of maintenance and I decided to go with the Dennis Kirk intake seals. When tightening it down, do I get the flange all the way against the head like you would with stock?? When I did that it looks like it squished the seal quite a bit (since they are thicker). Is this what everyone else did or did you leave quite a big gap between the flange and intake port

Yes, those blue seals are thicker. I bought the blue James gaskets on Amason https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009XIN278/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . I was trying to install them but noticed that the metal flange is not touching the face after tightening the screws with necessary force. Then I tightened the flange to touch the face, but the metal flange was bent because of the gasket is too thick. So I just installed standard size black intake gaskets from James Gaskets Top End 2007-2013 kit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009XIOZ0G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . I'm not sure the blue gaskets will work properly for this application, the flanges are not stiff enough to squish the thick gaskets, instead of squishing it is bending. Hm, I don't think my flanges are bending. It seems to be squishing the gasket just fine but I'm afraid by going all the way to base of the intake port its deforming the gasket to the point where I'm creating an intake leak. Although I don't see how someone is snugging up the throttle body without going all the way to the intake port. As I can still turn the bolts quite easily and the manual calls for 8-10 ft/lb of torque. Last night I took them back off, greased them up and put them back on. Seemed to still squish but not as far over as it was so maybe its ok??

Just wanted to hear from someone that has actually installed and run them, did they snug the flanges all the way to the intake port or did they leave a gap

Best to torque the bolts to spec
