Intake Vortex

Can anyone out there comment on the vortex nipple inside the airbox? What effect does it have? Would it be advisable to keep it in the intake when doing an airbox delete? I would like to keep my stock airbox intact, and finding another here is expensive, so am wondering if I should fabricate a nipple to go into my DIY airbox delete. Thanks for any comments...

no noticable differance for me, I removed the airbox delete kit that i bought from americansportbike.com and replaced it with a .064" oval sheet of aluminum..i would post pics but i dnt have a camera at the moment.. you will need the hardware from the delete kit, but all its just 2 machine screws a few waskers and some nuts..i have ridden it around with the new mod, and not much difference, no noticable power loss, but i think it seems louder, who knows, i say give it a shot because you can always take it off..

Where are you running the bolts through that holds the filter down? It almost looks like they are going through the holes that the original valve cover vent tubes ran through.

thats exactly where they go, i used the asb airbox delete kit hardware, which re-routes the valve cover vents..its really easy to do, just go to advanced auto and buy some rubber tube.

Difference between early 9 & 12 Inner Airbox lids says that it has performance perposes. But, most airbox delete kits don't have the nipple.

For about $70 ASB has a kit for the delete (with nipple) and the breather re-route.

Dont buy one, cut your stock one like I did.
If you ever want to return it to stock just buy a used one. They are cheap enough.

I did nearly the same thing except I used a piece of 1/4" plexiglass and instead of drilling new holes through the lower airbox I ran bolts with washers through the tubing holes next to the air sensor. Works great! It is a good bit louder than stock. You can hear a bit of engine noise coming up through the throttle body and reverberating off of the plexiglass. Sounds cool under full throttle though.

I would have cut up my airbox, but I want to be able to return the bike to stock if I ever want to, and here in NZ there are not a lot of used ones around. My brother made me a vortex nipple on his rapid prototype machine, so I will mount that inside my diy airbox delete, I figure that if it was worth buell doing it, there must be some gain, and it is not much more work, now that I have the part. Thanks all for the input
