If you take care of it, I'd say no the maintenance isn't high. and if you've never been on a bike I'd say definitely take it nice and slow. these bikes have a lot of power.

About the worst thing you can do is expect to be an expert right off the bat. Give yourself time to work up to all the power.

My first bike was a firebolt xb12r. Just take it nice and easy for a while. Just because you have tons of power doesn't mean you need to be using all of it, or are ready for it right away.

Their course usually trains you on a blast (msf). the stock blast to a stock 12 is a different world.

I'm with Redbolt above. My first was an XB12STT, and as everyone on here has said, take it easy at first, or you will be in for some unwelcome surprises.

My first was my xb12s.... Unless you count those two other times with those other bikes, but they were just fling ;)

From riding numerous Japanese sport bikes and cruisers I'd say that my XB12S is one of the easiest bikes to ride in terms of balance and riding position/comfort. boots with non-slip soles (along with helmet, pants, and gloves) are extremely important for learning a new bike. Plus, I would stay away from the twisted until you have some real experience.

Most riding courses allow you to use your own bike which I would recommend unless you are worried about dropping it. I took a course after 20 years of riding and still learned alot!
