Anyone here ever part out thier perfectly running, good condition buell? And is it worth it? Seems like the bikes are going too cheap around me, and im wondering if parting it out may be a better option.

Not sure why you would part out a nice bike that runs well. There are less of them everyday. There has to be someone who would enjoy riding a nice bike. Just my two cents.

Sometimes money is more important than the value. Some guys make their living killing these things to make money, I myself try my best to save them and keep them going

My reason would be to make more $. I dont want to give the thing away. Seems like everyone is broke, or thier wives said no! :-D

I think I might be able to answer your question.... It's more of a moral thing......
Yes, I have parted out running bikes.
The last one was a 2003 xbr that had 68,000 miles. the bike was really only worth about $1000 complete. But it was worth it's blue book in parts. So I parted it to keep other buell running.

So the question is are you realistic in the pricing..... And if you feel you got your money's worth, to take the depreciation value of the bike and to sell it at market value.....

Or do you want to be greedy and hope that you can part it out for more money.....
Keep in mind some parts sell quick and other parts don't sell at all....
So it can come back and bite you. Also keep in mind you time.

Moral thing? So it would be immoral to part it out? You guys crack me up lol.

06 xb12ss with 6000 miles, drummer ss, mapped ecm, yada y adda 4500 obo. Am I being greedy?

lol that is funny....but i agree..alot of people dont want to pay over 3500 for a used bike that is 8 ears old even if it has low miles..seems to be a lot of money now adays..for an 06 with 6000 miles 4500 is definitely high compared to todays market for them...i am in process of buying a 2010 xb9sx with 6k miles for 6k..if you think its worth the 4500 keep it there if you HAVE to sell it then lower the price till someone buys it..parting it is just sad and not worth your time..

Never said it would be immoral....
Maybe I should have used a simpler way of wording it.....
You know what is going to work for you, and what is not.
You can do whatever you would like to do, I honestly could care less.... "I'm not buell or die"
You made a post to ask for options..... I gave you a example of one of my personal experiences....
but, now that I got a little more info from you, if I was you.... I would just sell it to the first person who had $4000 cash in hand.
I think that parting it out will be about a 2 month plus event and with the time taking it apart and going back and forth to ship parts you will end up in about the same boat, if not less.

You'll be left with motor, frame, all the little nonsense plastic parts, wire harness, some fairings, swing arm.
That stuff is slow to sell, then there's the people trying to buy parts really cheap you have to deal with just like buying the bike real cheap.
Wheels, forks, front modules, tail (fits uly and STT also)
I'd say it's not worth parting until you get closer to $2500-3k price wise.
It takes months to sell all the parts off.
I'd say if someone speaks for the motor/ frame and swing arm then part it. The little front & tail sections sell easy but then you don't have a useable bike.
Last time I touched a 1125, already had deposit on frame and motor incase I wanted to part it out. I returned the deposits when someone offered an XB+cash for the 1125

FYI I only part out bikes if they aren't fixable. I'm in process of a clean title frame swap myself after a builder used the motor/forks/wheels for a chopper build.

Meanwhile I found a cheap same year bike which had a salvage title go missing somewhere along the line...
Now, I have a clean title bike that can be put back on the road. Just required dismantle & reassembly which takes about 8hr total once you know what your doing

I agree with UMD. You'll sell all the stuff guys need when they drop the bike in the garage, or slow speed drop. I would think you'd sell rear sets, bars, blinkers, tail, shift assembly.. stuff like that quick. Might be left holding the bag on the big dollar stuff for a while.

Honestly I don't think that price is bad. The bikes aren't made anymore, it's hard (at least local to me) to find a low mile well cared for bike. Most I've seen are in poor shape, 11,000 and up miles and usually look like they've been stored outside for ever. If I was looking and your bike was clean and well cared for I'd try to get you down a few hundred or so with cash in hand. Just wait for the right guy.

If you live in a "seasonal" riding climate now is a bad time to sell. Might be better trying next summer.

after reading all the responses, and doing some research, I dont think parting it would be wise.

I have never parted out a bike, let alone a running bike in good shape. But I can't believe in terms of time to: disassemble, advertise, show parts, dicker, etc., at the end of the day it will have been worth it versus the price of a 'whole' bike. Then again, time is a big part of that equation, and if you aren't doing anything else…then it probably makes sense. Especially if there are a lot of upgrade parts. Let us know, if you part it out, what you get for it. I'd be curious to see.

You can get 4k for that bike easily out here in cali. Just wait for someone who NEEDS a buell. Gotta rember also, buells arent a name that pops in peoples heads when they think of sportbikes. I meet people everyday who have no clue what a buell is or was. My xb12ss will stay with me till its end, or mine lol. That justifies dumping money and time into it xD

I think you would be better off making sure all the mechanicals of the bike are sound, a good detail job, buff the plastics out, and waiting til spring if you want top dollar. The time to dismantle, advertise, box and ship does not seem like it would be worth it.

Unless you get closer to $2k as best offer, it makes no sense to part these out.
Like I said, anything I part out was trashed or extremely high mileage & worthless. 145k uly, 70k & 68k xb9, 80k xb12, salvage title bikes & missing title junk yard finds...

I agree with everyone else. Sell it don't part it, but I really want that seat.... If you wanna sell it to me I can give you the stock ss seat +cash or trade some parts

^I suggest pulling parts off and returning to stock, then you make money that way. That's a high $ seat.

Stamen, that SS seat will only fit long chassis bikes. I thought you mentioned having a 12S when we talked.
Also the crappy white set of fire bolt plastics have sold, I have a couple of good fairings if you were still looking.
