Hi,
Let me first say that I am new to this forum and to the world of Buell. I happen to have a good friend who moved and needed a space in my garage to store his 2009 1125 CR...lucky me!, Bike only had 2500 miles on it. well now it has 3500 and I am enjoying it more and more...Its gonna hurt when we part...or maybe not ;-)

A few days ago I ran into you guys on this forum and started learning stuff ab.this monster of a bike. Great community of buellistas btw:) Last night I sent an email to my buddy after having read various posts on the stator issue... Today I picked the Buell to go to work. After a stop at my local hardware store, it refused to start. All lights up and plenty of juice in the battery but no starting. when trying to start it , the screen would end up blank.

I was prepared for this so to speak as you guys have been documenting this issue extensively, so I guess that this is what happened to me today. From my reading I really was under the impression that most 2009 1125cr ran ibto this issue. right? Better now than later is what I told myself.

Considering that I am not skilled enough to do the repair I am thinking of buying EBR rotor + nut and Stator from Ricksmotor, then tow the bike to the EBR certified dealer in Marina del Rey for repair. Do you guys agree with this option?
Thank you in advance for your feedback:)

If your battery had plenty of juice it is not the stator. Stators are the charging system, without them the juice in the battery drains until everything dies. Your problem might be as simple as the starter fuse/relay. Does not sound like the stator unless you try to start and you hear a CLICK CLICK CLICK, which is the starter not having enough juice from the battery.

If you have plenty of juice till you try to start it and the screen just goes blank it sounds like the starter relay. My 2009 had the exact same symptoms at 3100 miles. The starter relay is right next to the battery, and also has been somewhat documented to cause problems

Thank you guys. I will check the relay today and if thats the cause then i guess a new fuse will do the job. To be honest I was hoping it would be the stator/rotor issue. From my reading on the forum this is a very common issue on 2009 yr model and it's just waiting to happen. Do you guys agree? Any stats available?
Thanks again:))

My bike is a 2009 it had 3100 miles when I got it earlier this year and im at 5300 miles now with zero issues. Im not easy on her either. Although I am about to purchase at the very least the oil cooling rotor just so its done.

Short of a hellofalot of torque needed on the rotor nut, anyone should feel confident in doing this repair. You really don't need much in the way of tools either. It really is that easy. Just look at the guides/videos and tape your stator wires onto the snake like your life depends on it :D

That said, everyone with an 09 should expect to have to replace at some point - especially if you're doing city riding. We also have a tendency to assume ANY issue means that our time is up and we need to fork over some $ for repairs - not always the case. Start from easy/costless and progress from there - 1) starter relay 2) battery - 'plenty of juice' is relative. especially on a high cca bike. Honestly, if she ain't clicking and the starter relay is good, my money is on a bad battery. If the battery were good/charged, she'd start/attempt.

Throwing it out there, but if anyone ever needs a crank locking tool, I can loan mine out (with deposit).

Sorry for the late follow up. Brought the battery to be tested and it was dead. So yes some light but not enough juice to get the bike to start. I am getting the new battery tomorrow and hopefully it will do the job. To be continued and thanks to all for helping.

yep that was the battery. now was it drained because of charging issue or because the bike stayed still for almost 5 yrs? I guess i will know sooner or later. i am going to call HD of Glendale as they are still Buell certified and see what they have to say about it. Can they be trusted to have the right fix (i.e EBR new rotor)? to be continued:)

Still as in not ridden at all for 5 years?? Even with a trickle charger batteries don't seem to last longer than 5 years tops. Or at least mine don't! I'm lucky for 3 years usually.

Follow up: about a couple of weeks ago the engine and battery gauges lit up :-( i didnt want to find myself stranded again so I turned back and garaged ithe bike. Since then I ordered EBR new rotor and Rick's Stator. Appointment is made with HD of Glendale to do the switch. ab 1 hr labor. thats it! I do hope that my new battery is still good to go and will remain charging strongly in the futur;-)
