I believe it's way pass time to re-pack my Jardine RT-1 muffler and I am curious what others have had success with. Not trying to get a muffler debate going, just some recommendations on re-pack material.

Jardine OEM kit is out of stock, so that is a no go.

Other options:

FMF Premier Muffler Packing - $34 (Bikebandit)
FMF 4-Stroke Performance Muffler Packing - $10 (Bikebandit)

Moose Racing Spec 30 High Performance Muffler Packing - $31 (Bikebandit)
Moose Racing Universal Stainless Repack Kit - $31 (Bikebandit)

ASB 9080 Steel Wool Re-packing kit - $47 (American Sport Bike)

Thanks for any input.

Cheers!

I use similar to the spec 30 stuff in mine, but the holes in the perf cores are smaller than what's in a jardine muffler. I think it's Silent Sport packing but they stopped shipping it to the US about a year ago. I still have some left, maybe 10-15 lbs, I'll have to find another source for it soon.

Most guys around here use the FMF 4-Stroke packing.....pretty much only because our local little shop sells it! But....no one has anything BAD to say about it either.

Funny thing...I had just asked myself this question last week. I went with coarse steel wool from the local hardware store. So last night I got around to actually redoing the muffler. I did the Jardine torque fix at the same time, and decided to not repack it and see how I liked it (can is empty except reducer and perforated tube). Truthfully, I LOVED it. Bike feels incredible again, and sounds perfect. Exactly the sound I was looking for. Seriously, I am in love...

I put Moose racing universal packing(pillow form) in mine. it was just a touch too long so I had to trim it. Had to pull the muffler apart at the beginning because my GP-1 cap fell off, so I inspected the packing. It's held up great so far. I would say it has 3000 miles on it now.

This is one of the reasons I decided to change my pursuit of exhaust. I love the look and sound of the carbon fiber Jardine, and really wanted it. But this is the exact reason I've decided to go another route. I just don't want to have to deal with this issue with an exhaust. Especially when you put lots of miles on your bike, I don't want to have to have this issue in the back of my head and wondering when, not if I'm going to have to address this problem.

The torque fix involves placing a reducer inside of the muffler, right at the inlet. If you search for Jarine torquw fix you will find posts about it.
