Id consider getting protection for your new bike too. some frame pucks, bar ends, axle sliders, case sliders. I can't imagine the cost of damage to my bike if I didn't have them in my wreck 2 years ago. Ended up just being about 300 bucks of damage and most of that was replacing the protection parts.

Thanks for all of the advice - I hadn't heard of the armor for the bike - I will definitely look into it. As soon as I get a weekday off I want to check out the local bike shops for gear. I will be covered head to toe when I ride - dress for the crash mentality.
I do have pucks, axel sliders, and case sliders on my list of things to pick up soon. Will bar ends really help anything in the event of a fall? I was just going to put bar end mirrors.
It has about 6900 miles, but it was rebuilt by a HD dealer around '07ish. A previous owner (not the guy I bought it from) laid it over and slid it, so much of it was replaced. There is a small dent (very shallow) on the frame on the left side, and a few scratches in the frame but nothing major. I think at some point I could have it smoothed and painted, but it really doesn't show unless you look for it.
I take my motorcycle license class in two weeks, so until then I will buy up parts and gear, give it a bath, and maybe put around in the neighborhood, just to get used to the shifting. Taking it off the trailer and up into the garage, I had a hard time with the shifter. Maybe it was just me not having the angle right, or maybe something is a little too tight. I may trailer it up to the shop on my day off to have them give it a once over.

Icon Stryker is body armor.. its like a exoskeleton
"Bar-ends" is slang for "bar end mirrors" so yeah..
just cover the dent with the stock frame pucks
as for the shifting, remove the shift linkage and clean it.. then lube with light oil, make sure its adjusted to the proper height so your toe and reach it quickly
also check primary chain tension
then adjust your clutch cable... sometimes an old cable cannot be fully adjusted correctly and this can also effect shifting feel
make sure your air pressure in your tires is correct and clean the mounts on the front brake rotor out with Liquid Wrench.. this stops any "pulsing" you may feel when hitting the front break.

important: read the free downloadable manual at the top of this page and learn how to adjust the suspension to your weight... XBs don't feel good unless this is done. You can also look for "race settings" for that suspension online too.

I also would NOT recommend "local bike shops".. you are either going to pay super high prices OR higher prices for cheap **** that you can get even cheaper online... shop online and post a link here and let us take a look at it before you buy it, there is extensive knowledge about gear right here from fellow members.. don't be afraid to ask us. We can save you a lot of money.

Instead of making a new thread, I thought it best to just add on to here. I've had the bike almost eight months now, and loving every minute of it. Fortunately I live in Florida, so I'm still riding it through the winter.
I've changed to a cherry bomb setup (the original color I wanted back in the day when I used to see them new in the dealerships):

I also am looking to get all of the original Buell OEM carbon fiber pieces available for my bike. I have front and rear fenders, rider heel guards and passenger heel guards (not installed). I'm still on the lookout for the cf chin spoiler and oil cooler. I will also be picking up the belt guards and holding on to them until later when I update to the newer style belt:

I just got in the ASB airbox delete plate and rerouted the PCV air hoses. Originally, I didn't think I'd like the white, but under the tank it doesn't look too bad. I still may paint later, but it will do fine for now:

About to get the Buell heated grip kit (Christmas present from the family). so that should go on in a few weeks. While in there, I might add the headlight bucket with accessory plug. Then the next priority will be muffler (hopefully D&D), K&N filter, and race ECM.

Thanks for all the help I've received here, and hope to start meeting some of you in the coming year!

Sorry that I don't have any pics yet, but to update from the last post:

I have added the heated hand grips. I sourced a wiring harness from a newer prewired bike so that I could integrate as much into the factory wiring as possible. It turned out really well, and wow those suckers get toasty!

Swapped wires in the harness to have the dual headlight mod. Love it.

Installed the Race ECM and K&N filter. Haven't decided on which exhaust to get just yet. I lean more towards the original Buell Race exhaust, but I'm not going to pay an arm and a leg for it when there are cheaper ones brand new that sound better and make more power.

I bought the accessory socket with the intention of having a hole drilled into the module to install it. From what the shop tells me, it's not as simple as that. Next step in that area will be to source a front module from the SX(?) that came with the accessory socket hole. Then it will just be a bolt on.

I've ridden the bike every day since I picked it up from the shop, rain or shine, cold or warm. :)

To update the thread, since my last update I...

am changing from Cherry Bomb to Hero Blue. I'll rock it like this for around a year and then go either Valencia Orange or White.

found a OEM carbon fiber oil cooler scoop and OEM carbon fiber upper belt guard.

found a good condition race exhaust and had it polished to a nice satin finish.

added a Powerlet low profile accessory socket to use with a GPS or to charge my phone.

upgraded the sidestand before I gave it a chance to break.

Currently, I'm finishing up the color swap and working on fabbing up a bracket for my GPS and cellphone that will attach to the stock mirror mount.

Not too bad for my first bike. :)

The Buell went down and was totaled, so I've turned the page to the next chapter in my motorcycle ownership. I'll make a separate thread with all the details. Fortunately, I was able to stay within the family.

(I know the Buell looks fine, but it had left side damage)

I'll still be on the forums, but more in the EBR section now. I'll have lots of xb stuff up for sale, so feel free to shoot me a message with any questions.
