So I just picked up a 2007 xb12r firebolt with 5000mi, first let me say this is the funnest bike I've ever had. Been a Harley guy for a long time and this is my first sport bike and I've put 200mi on her in about 3 days. Now I just have a few questions. The seller told me it had a jardine exhaust (sounds awesome!!!) but didn't mention any other mods. While getting a little more familiar with the bike I found it also has a K&N air filter. Doing some research on this site I know if you do both than you need to either get a race ecm or tune the stock one. The previous owner said it was tuned but it does a bit of popping on decel, and a small bit of intermittent stumbling ( nothing real bad just a little bit that seems to get better as she warms up). I can't seem to locate the ecm to see if it says race use only, is there a way to verify that the stock ecm has been tuned correctly? Where is the ecm located? is this something to really worry about? mine and my wifes anniversary is in a month and were taking a ride about 2 hours south to spend our anniversary weekend so I wanna make sure its running good. Any help or advise is appreciated, ill put up some pictures as soon as I can

The ECM is behind your front fairing. You will need to take off the mirrors, blinkers, and screw out the lowest two bolts for whatever windscreen you currently have on the bike. Once that it is off it should be very easy to spot in front of the handle bars.

As for the second part of your question, I can't answer that as I have a Race ECM in my bike so I haven't even thought about tuning it. But based on what I have read on other posts you will need to get an ECM cable and one of the various ECM tuning software suites that are mentioned throughout the forum. If you do a basic search of the forum you should be able to find it pretty quickly.

Also, my bike runs better once it is warm and most bikes are the same. I hope you are giving it an appropriate amount of time to warm up before you start riding it. That is a general suggestion for whatever bike you own and will help increase the life of the bike.

I do give it about 5-10 min to warm up before I hop on it, thanks for helping with the location ill take a look tomorrow and see if its got a race ecm or if I need to look into the ecmspy that everyone seems to be using
