I have a question about the ignition. I was just wondering when u turn the power on for the bike it makes that beep (whine), after u start the ignition, is it still suppose to make that sound after the bike is running? On my bike it is constant.

just bought mine today same bike and year and (i may be wrong but) i think that it is the fuel pump running if its the high pitched whine your talking about

You guys might want to check the charge on your battery. I was getting a cheep Cheep sounds when starting it up every other day in my garage when it was getting cold. After hooking it up to a tender and getting a full charge, the sound is gone.

Do you get the same noise after you've warmed up the bike a bit?

yes, its constant and annoying. im not sure if it working as intended or not. It's the sound when u first turn the key to on position>then after it starts up the sound continues.

I think thats the fuel pump priming. Mine lasts a few seconds then stops. I never noticed it while running. Mine is an 07, not sure about the early years.

It shouldn't be doing it when it's running. My bike does make a slight whining noise that I can hear sometimes when I'm riding, but it's no where near as loud as that initial noise.

uuuuhhh...if it doesn't do it while running, then you don't have any fuel and your bike is not running!

our fuel pumps are notoriously loud. And the volume is closely linked to heat- the hotter the pump is, the louder it gets. Low fuel levels and long riding days make for hotter fuel, which can make the pump noisier. It is likely just fine.

I'm not positive, but I think the early XBs were noisier. My '03 S is much louder than my '06 X. The S has the race pipe, and I can sometimes here the fuel pump over the pipe! Been that way since I bought it 4 years ago...

My 03 xb9r makes the noise when the key is initially turned on but I haven't heard it while the bike is running. Although my race pipe may cover the sound.

I hear mine on my 04 XB12R even when riding......it dosent apear to be louder when riding, but I also have a Drummer SS and it could be masking the sound from the pump.

Well I restarted the bike today and the noise seems to be gone. I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the ignition but when it starts there was a noticable noise difference today than yesterday. I hope it dosnt come back, or is something that comes up to bite me in the butt when im 50 miles from home. Thanks for all the feedback guys I really appreciate it.

my fuel pump noise only sounds when the RUN switch is turned on. I can have the key on and no noise, but once the run switch is turned on, ther is a whine for a few seconds until the fuel pump builds pressure, then it stops. Don't hear it when bike is running. Just mentioning in case it's a different sound that you have.

yes that is your fuel pump whirring/whining. my 03's fuel pump has makes a whole buch of noises and volumes depending on teh temp, fuel level, and lunar cycle.

you guys prolly don't hear it while riding/running cuz of whatever EXH you gots.
don't confuse that with teh fan. you'll know it's teh fan cuz teh fan blades will be all blurry, and it wil be blowing air out towards teh rear of teh bike.

but really, stop worrying about teh dang fuel pump and ride it!

Just adding my .02 cents, but I used to be able to hear mine while running as well on my 04 12R, the only reason I can no longer hear it is due to a D&D, that drowns out everything! So yes that's normal.
