Hello All,
I am new but have been visiting the forums for the past couple weeks. I just bought my first motorcycle. Picked up a 2004 XB12s with 700 miles on it for $5100 (ebay). The bike also came with a transferable warranty until May 2010.

Is there anything I should be worried about since the bike has not been ridden much? After shipping and everything it is closer to $6k but I still thought it was a pretty good deal. Would love to hear what you think and what I can do to make sure it runs fine after not being driven often.

Thanks!

service the bike before you ride it.
get some good oil in that engine and some new plugs
check the condition of the belt, the clutch and primairy.

i would also check the electrical connections and maybe get some dielectric grease on them...but that's just me and i'm a freak :p

if you have the chance, get the'06 airbox cover on (front grille near fuel-cap)

Is there a difference between 04 and 06 airbox (obviously or you wouldnt be telling me:p)? What is the difference? Thanks for your help Fox

like mentioned, the '06 has a grille at the fuel-cap.

letting fresh more air run through.

Now that I have it I think I see what you are talking about, instead of buying a new one couldnt I modify the 04 to allow air into the box by the fuel cap?

Thanks

:)there is mega mods to do!get out and ride!!!!Enjoy and get ready for "what kind of bike is that" O ya,Welcome:p

Thanks guys, I love it. Accidently got the front wheel off the ground on the 1st day (probably 2-4 inches) and also peeled out on accident in friends parking garage. Little scary, still fun. Front brake scares me more than anything with how hard it grabs.

Anyways, Since Lefox Seems to know his stuff, I am still looking for advice on making my 04 airbox like a 06 airbox with DIY modifications. Any help or is this not possible? Thanks

Since your's is an '04, it pulls air in through that "snorkel" hole on the left side of the gas tank/frame; which is absent in the '06+. The small amount of air that would be allowed through with the '06 design on your bike, wouldn't make a lot of difference unless you're just doing it strictly for looks. It's up to you. Good to hear you're enjoying that Torque. Take Care.

So on the 06 the scoop is just to cool engine, no snorkle up to airbox? I saw that snorkle up to the airbox when I took the cover off last night trying to get to know the bike better.

The big difference between 04 and 06 air bos is that 04 have a hole in the frame to allow air in the air box. 06 the hole isn't there so a bit more fuel capacity but they replace that hole in the frame by cutting a hole in the air box cover. So for you to get an 06 air box cover there would be even more air going threw the air box but you wouldn't see a difference other then look.

Thanks guys, just the way lefox made it sound made me think the 04 airbox was not good and hindered performance. Since that is not the case I will be able to sleep tonight. Thanks again for the help, I plan on exploring more and doing the breather re-route soon as one of my 1st mods. Then likely cut some holes in the airbox and chop the tail. Don't want to do anything that requires a remap really, so no exhaust or anything performance wise for me I dont think...not for a while at least
