So i got a pretty good deal on traded my atv for it iy 5500 miles when i got it i was told 2 gear doesent work witch it doesnt. the bike run perfect and drive flawless as long you shift past 2.when you put it in 2 it acts like it goes in for a second and the bike jerks then pops back and then back in. when you shift down from 3 it works fine as long as dont give it gas. what i mean you can use 2 to slow you down. so my question is whats the best way to go about fixing? i am mechanily inclined.

i forgot the pic i just love the look of it its so nasty!!!

maybe a shift fork issue sounds like a trans teardown download the sevice manuals they'll help you alot

bad luck risco. once that gear goes the whole bike is worthless. i can come by and grab it from you at no cost -- this way it wont collect dust in that filthy cluttered garage you have there. :D

Sounds like a bent/damaged shift fork. Common problem with the 99-02 R6. A lot of the time on the R6 if you have this issue start, you will know it because if you kick it hard, it will slam in.. If you just tap the shifter you can hear it almost bounce off and it will go to neutral. Good luck. Pricey fix on a jap bike. IIRC like $500-$750.

If you're mechanically inclined, then pull the engine, tear it down and replace the shift fork or associated gear. Gasket kit from harley is about $210 cdn. Then you'll have all fresh gaskets and seals, a well shifting trans, and you're good to go for tens of thousands of kms or miles.
Sounds like you got a great deal even with the bummed 2nd gear to me.:)

thank you for your respones im thinking about doing the tear down in the winter when its to cold to ride the bike anyways chrispudd where can i get the complete engine kit from.
