keeping header looking good

I have been using wd-40 and a green scotchbrite pad to keep my header pipes looking good found about that here thank you for that..... I love the clean look now I seem to have to stay on top of them as they appear to have rusty patterns showing up only days after I clean them using this technique is there something I I can do to keep them looking good inbetween the tedious clean ups with the wd-40 and scotchbrite pads? I would not mind the normal return of gold color so much but the spotty rusty looking spots just look bad. any tips would be appreciated thank you all for taking the time to read this.
 
They aren't rusting, they are stainless. I did mine about a month ago and they just turned goldish, not a rust color. Perhaps you aren't doing it right?
 
Could it be a residue burning onto them or result of hard water or condensation is there a final step I am missing this is not the normal even gold color but splotchy spots that look a lot like rust I will post a pic in the future
