my first buell. long story short, was ridding.. engine oil light came on.. shortly after was a loud knocking. stopped right away figured ok low on oil not good so i trucked it home. changed the oil knock went away. after a few hundred miles knock came back but not as loud.. any ideas? thanks.

check the oil pump gear they can go bad I would assume the knock would be the lifters not getting oil but you know what happens when you assume

It depends if it is a knock or a tick. If it is a knock, it is in the bottom end and will need rebuilt. If it is a tick, it is in the top end and will most likely need rebuilt. The odds are something is F-ed up and will most likely need a rebuild. I wouldnt even crank it if I didnt have to. The more you run it, the more damage you will do. I would try the oil pump gear first and see if by chance this is the culprit and nothing was damaged. But like I said odds are you going inside that thing.[sad]

By the way, where are you located? Maybe someone on here is close by and can lend a helping hand if needed.

yeah thats what i was thinking. im over by jacksoville, north carolina. i dont really want to take it to the stealership...

If I was a little closer I'd help you out for sure. I'm in north west GA. Maybe some one else is close by that can recomend a shop to take it to. Unless it's under warranty, I would avoid the dealership like the plague regardless of feelings about Harley. I will do some checking and see if can come up with anything for you. [confused]
