New to the Forum and a FI Buell rookie, I Bought my 08 Bolt and the only Mod was a Jardaine slip on. I noticed it had a slight lean surge/ ridablity issue at about 2800-3300 RPM. I figured ECM remap would be the fix so I added a K&N and I bought a remaped EBR ECM . Bike runs great except it still has that ridability problem when your in the same rpm range with the throttle just cracked. ie riding in traffic. Yup I reset the TPS many times and I put about 800mi on her so the ECM can learn my bike. I also have ECM SPY and nothing looks out of the norm. Anyone have any ideas?

kurt: if your EBR ecm is mapped/calibrated from EBR for the jardine muffler and K&N filter it should fuel nicely with minimal amount of light throttle surging. a breather re-route and fresh NGK DCPR9EIX plugs might help but i would be tempted to call EBR and see what their thoughts are on the mapping and any suggestions they might have. ask for eric (NOT erik buell) when you call. believe he is still the main ecm tech there.

I doubt on an '08 this is an issue, but check for any vacuum leaks.....especially at the manifold to cylinder head area. Like Lunatic said, the EBR ecm should work out good for you.

Thanks everyone, Im planning on going through the intake to check for leaks. My Buell ECM is for my Jardiane and K&N, I also shot EBR an email. 818Guy, let me know how it works out. For now im going to assume the EBR ECM is ok and its another problem. Rode today on my favorite road/track(lol) and really pushed my Buell as far as I dare on the street. Other than that surge problem she ran like the torgue monster that she is, even bounced her off the red like a few times. No troubles, except for that nagging surge. I had a 91 Honda VFR that did the same thing when I put a Dyno jet kit in it. It turned out to be the shape of the needles fron Dynojet. Fixed it with new needles from TwoBros Racing. I know EFI is a whole new animal and Big V twins are very hard to get right when the are pushing 100hp. we will get there keep the advice coming. Thanks everyone!

Fixed it!!!!!. Not sure what its used for but on the front of the trottle body next to the throttle cable is a nipple that is suppose to be connected to something. Its a venturi that goes inside the TB next to the flapper. i plugged it to stop the vacum leak. Now my XB runs like it should. Hope this helps. I sure would like to know where it is suppose to connect to.

I seen that when I rotated my engine and didnt think anything of it. I have a surge also. What did u plug it with? Might be trying this tomorrow.

Isn't that the EVAP hose fitting? (EVAP canister is only for California models). I'm surprised plugging the nipple fixed your problem, actually. But if you're sure it runs better after plugging it, I guess we can't argue with results. And it's good that you no longer have unfiltered air entering the engine.

That nipple should have a plug on it if you don't have the evap hose and canister on the bike, if not it is a vacuum leak and the bike will run crappy like a lean surge. wire tie it so it doesn't come off again.

It definitely needs to be plugged if no evap system to prevent unfiltered dirty air into the engine.

The other end of that fitting emerges inside the throttle body -above- the throttle plate, open to the atmosphere :). If it emerged below the throttle plate (ie, intake manifold/engine side), it would be a vacuum leak because the air being sucked in is "unmetered" by the ECM.

Put 250mi on her since and she is running great. Just took a piece of hose ( off my 78 RM250C2 Vintage MXer) foled it over and zip tied it. I know its not a true vac. leak but where it enters the TB it is right next to the butterfly and just off idle its sucking air. I used some carb cleaner to sniff out any other leaks and found none. Thanks Again!
