I’ve never really liked the LED thing on bikes but after seeing a thread about LED’s inside the translucent plastic posted by ronmetzler I actually liked the effect and figured I’d give it a try. Worst case scenario; I don’t like it and take it back out, no damage done.
During the day with the lights off you can’t tell they’re there at all. And when you turn them on when it gets dark they provide more of a ‘hovering glow’, not a bright light. They’re also not distracting while riding which is important. With a (full face) helmet on you don’t even see them, without the helmet it’s still just a mild light.
I got the LED’s off ebay; $13.30 for 4 strips about a foot long each w/ free shipping. I actually only used 3 of the strips for my application, two on each side and one at the back of the airbox cover where it meets the seat. I didn’t do lights behind the wind screen because it would only highlight miscellaneous wiring, horn etc which isn’t anything interesting to see. The entire project took me about two hours or so to apply the 3M double stick tape inside the tank line, install the LED’s on the tape, then solder, run wiring & install switch (under the seat).
Taking pictures of the LED’s that accurately represent the real look is almost impossible. During the day pics don’t work and at night the lights stand out in the pictures more than in real life so I took a few right at dusk. The pics came out OK but the real look is a lot deeper, intense red than the pics show.

I also installed these LED turn signals and I’m super happy with them. They’re probably 4 or 5 times brighter than stock and look ten times better. Plus, they’re cheap, always a thumbs up.
