This used to happen at my dealership when I worked for Mercedes a few years back.... Except they hit the lot with all the customers cars that were in for service/repairs.
That lot was easy access compared to the new ones. Cameras didn't help either.

Grab a ticket and walk out to find a car sitting on small 4x4 chunks!

When I worked at shit-count tire we had a couple times where someone stole a truck and ran through a bay door, loaded up the rims and hauled it off.

Best one... The owner was in town and he wanted to leave his brand new Mercedes in our spare bay overnight, that night an f350 was rammed through the door to only plow the back of the owners car! they didn't expect a car to be sitting there. They ditched the truck and didn't take anything. But jacked that car up good!
( which I personally thought was hilarious, and for those who've worked at discount and known the BS that's put into the store when the owner comes to town knows exactly why it's funny )

Buddy works at a large local dealer, 2yrs ago they had a new Malibu stolen. Sad thing was they had so many in the lot it was literally 3 months later when they had a customer ask to see that one because of the color and they couldn't find it. They had to look back on the security cameras to the first Sunday it was on the lot and seen someone stole the car right in the middle of the day. Just walked up, opened the door as it had been unlocked, and drove off. Almost like they had a key for it. Sounds like an inside job to me, but who knows.
