What gear do you use and why?

Me,

I would post pictures but my gear is not with me at the moment.

Bell revolver modular helmet: Wind tunnel tested, classic bell quality and good looks. Unlike some other modular helmets you can't hardly tell it's a modular. Same shape and form as the standard helmets. Except the face lifts up. My favorite function of this helmet is the secondary sun visor. Best of both worlds. I will never use another helmet that does not have a secondary visor. Very stable helmet. Holds straight up to about 160. Haven't tested it any higher than that. Don't think I really need to lol

Buell switchback boots: a local hardware store had a bunch of these in stock. Been using them for about 5 years now. Love them. A pair lasts me a few seasons of riding. Also use them for off-road applications. Quite durable. Make great snow boots. Semi waterproof. Also breathable enough to handle hot weather.

Gericke armored full leather jacket: great jacket. Saved my skin many times. Full removable armor, back shoulder side front etc. a little on the heavy side but the extra protection makes up for it. There are plenty of vents to keep air moving on those hot summer days as long as you are moving. Otherwise things get real toasty real quick. Awesome winter jacket.

Kobalt gloves: I hardly wear gloves, even though I should [sad]. Just found these a week or so ago at sears for $5 and couldn't pass them up. Sticky thick heavy palms, durable up to high heat, breathable polymer mesh and rubberized protection on the top side of the glove. Quality glove for a killer price.

Post em up!

I am currently looking for a good set of protective riding pants. Suggestions?[confused]

Helmet: Scorpion EXO-1100 - I found it for just $200 on a Revzilla closeout sale. It has tons of ventilation, It is very solid, little no buffeting or wind noise at highway speeds. It also has a secondary visor for when I need sunglasses which is amazing. Overall it is an incredibly solid helmet and the build quality is pretty much on par with comparable Shoei helmets I tried on.

Jacket: Alpinestars T‑GP Plus Air Jacket - This is a lightweight textile jacket with strategic mesh portions for maximum ventilation. Riding in Florida in the summer it can get hot and this jacket is amazingly comfortable even in the 90's while still seeming substantial enough to protect me in a fall. It has a good amount of armor to it but I need to buy the back armor insert, as the standard foam insert for the back is not adequate. I really like the cut of Alpinestars jackets for my build so I was willing to pay a little more for a more comfortable fit. That being said, I did find a showroom demo that I was able to get a deal on.

Gloves: Speed and Strength Seven Sins Gloves - Comfortable fit and a pretty good build quality. I would definitely buy them again.

Boots: Speed and Strength Black 9 Moto Shoes - Absolutely love these. I wanted a functional boot that I could also where with a lot of different clothes and didn't scream motorcycle boot. These looks like high-top converse but they are much bulkier and have a reinforced toe and ankles. There is a lot of interior padding and thick leather on the outside. Anyone who didn't know would never guess they were a motorcycle boot. They are also surprisingly comfortable to walk around in despite being substantially more stiff than your average shoe.

I am currently on the hunt for a good set of leathers and racing boots for the track. Gotta find the best balance of quality vs cost. Haven't decided on anything yet.

Icon Variant helmet, love it. Just wish they made it with the secondary sun visor.

Fox jacket, armored, body of jacket is mesh material so doesn't change temperature, not to hot and I can wear a jacket under it on cool days.

Gloves are Buell riding gloves I bought off the forum here second hand.

Boots- not yet, working on them. I wear my work boots right now, but trying to talk myself into buying a set of Gasolina's :D

^ Ive been looking real hard at the Gasolina boots too. Really like the typhoon model

Helmet: Arai XD4, amazing piece of gear, I will never skimp on a helmet
Jacket: Alpinestars T-Fuel, comfortable and armored
Gloves: Roland Sands Barfly, amazing gloves..how can anyone not wear gloves???
Shoes: Alpinestars S-MX2 boots

I ride fully geared no matter where I go. Spent a little extra here and there on gear, but it's all super comfortable and helps with confidence when up in the twisties.

I wear a strange mixture. Arai Phil Read addition Vector helmut, Cycle Gear Jacket(it was a gift), riding gloves from the flea market and Aerostitch Combat Lite Boots. Does it work, yes, don't ask me how I know. Kinda Dollar store/Nieman Marcus combo! ATGATT! Cheap is better than nothing. Shorts and flip flops? I LIVE IN fLORIDA, YOU EITHER SWEAT TO DEATH OR FREEZE.

@303xb: Um you must have missed putting on your pants the day that photo was taken then. :p

Helmet: Arai RX-Q
Got it for a killer deal, and reviews said it was super quiet. Not as quiet as I was expecting, but far better than the Shoei RF-1100 I was using prior.

Jacket: Scorpion Eternity Phantom
Full SAS-TEC armor arms/shoulders comes standard. I added a SAS-TEC back armor piece to complete the set.

Gloves: Alpinestars SP-X
Wanted a well ventilated glove that still offered scaphoid protection. To be replaced by Scorpion SG3 or something along those lines with Knox SPS and a longer gauntlet.

Pants: Icon Compound
Nice combination of leather and textile with proven protection from other riders on Revzilla, and they flow a decent amount of air.

Boots: Dainese TRQ Race Out Air
Wanted a perforated boot with axial ankle protection. Plus they are SUPER easy to get in and out of given the rear entry single zipper. Far and away easier than any of the Sidi or Cortech I tried.

I usually just do short rides (~5miles) from home to work, but always wear my Bell Vortex helmet, Alpinestars TZ-1 Reload perforated leather jacket (summer)/X-Element 3 layer jacket (winter), and Alpinestars SMX-3 Gloves (summer)/military issue gloves (winter). I also have a pair of Alpinestars Faster half boots for around town rides.

The Vortex I got for $60 shipped brand new during a recent closeout and for that price I don't think it can be beat.

The TZ-1 Reload jacket is really nice. The fit for me is superb and even in the hot and humid NC summers its very comfortable when moving. I don't think any jacket could be considered comfortable when idling at the light in 100* heat!

The Faster half boot is a very nice around town boot. Looks good and easy to walk around in.

I still need to get a pair of pants and a set of full boots for joy rides.

Helmet: Shoei Qwest - relatively quiet, VERY comfortable for my head shape, visor changes are a breeze, build quality is too notch.

Jacket: Shift Storm Series Trifecta - armored mesh jacket with two interchangeable layers. This has been one of my favorite moto related things for a long time. It will suck to have to replace this someday.

Pants: Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants. Love these for all season street riding.

Gloves: Icon Justice mesh gloves. These are kind of meh. They are comfy in hot weather, but they're not my favorite item.

Boots: my wife just got me a pair of Vortech Latigo Air RR boots to replace my old Tourmaster Response 2.0. They are a tremendous improvement! I really, really, really like them so far!

IMO, that is the bare minimum a rider should wear in terms of pants. I always have a pair on, regardless of how hot it may be. Plain denim is not acceptable, as I found out when I took a 5 mph low side where the asphalt chewed through the denim and my skin in the blink of an eye.

The problem with wearing armored pants is people don't want to wear them everyday if they commute to work, or are going for like an hour ride. The trick is finding something with at least some protection, that is comfortable and you will wear EVERY time you ride. Kevlar jeans were the bare minimum solution for me, although I admit that wearing armored textile or leather pants is superior.

For a jacket I like the Cortech GX-Air 3.0. It comes with two different liners, and full armor. Great jacket. Seems very well made.

For pants I like Icon Recon kevlar lined jeans. I have several pairs of them. No armor, but better than regular jeans. The stretchy parts breath well.

Lots of stuff. I have a collection of riding gear out in the garage that rivals my wife's wardrobe. I'm not particularly brand-loyal, but I look for top quality gear that fits right, & I buy it on sale.

I dress to suit the type of riding I'll be doing & the type of whether I expect to encounter.

Regardless, I always pick breathable gear with armour, & I always ride with AGATT!
