light housing plug?

got some new lights and was wondering if anyone had these installed on their lights or should they be removed?

I have a lightning but I have a similiar looking plug on my bezel that holds the park/marker light for the euro models. It is not used on USA bikes. Anyway thats what they look to me.

have seen a lot of pics on google images and the plug isn't installed, wondered if they are removed due to the heat generated from the bulbs and or for cooling
