New to the forums, and new to Buell/Sport Bikes. I'm looking to grab an XB12R in the next couple months and have my eye on a couple out there. Are there any differences in the year models that I should be aware of? I've seen references to different parts being used between some of the older years and newer years. Anything I should watch out of before purchasing?

Just looking for a general idea on anything I should be concerned with going into it.

Thanks!

Welcome, alot of upgrades 08+ yrs, 03-07 models have some issues but alot of members on here with alot of help!

Seen several 03-07 motors over 100k, seen 08 motors throw Rods at 20,000. Seen 03 motors blow at 700 miles.

Seen 07 motors go around 30-50k. Seen 08+ have all kinds of electrical issues & codes.

Seen sport bike motors fail too. Seen wheels crack, swing arms break from disc locks.

I mean it really doesn't matter, just find a bike & ride. Live and learn, don't let someone else tell you what bike to get.

People obsess over low milage to a fault! A 10 year old bike with 1000 miles has been abused it my eyes. It hasn't even found it's quirks yet! At 4k-8K miles per year on a 03-07 style motor, it is broken in and probably has less wear than the low-milage one thats only been dry started and revved up in the garage twice a year:(
Even though the Thunderstorm motors had lots of good upgrades (08-10), and I like them a lot! I have seen weird problems with them. Maybe they never built enough of them to shake out the new engineering bugs?
Don't get me wrong, I think they all are some of the most dependable bikes you can buy, just be aware that the newest or lowest mileage doesn't tell the whole story.

My mom drives about 3 miles to work and back everyday in cold weather. It's killing her 'low-milage' car. Batteries, starters, wheel bearings... sound familiar?
