Thanks for reading my post.

1998 M2 Cyclone

I live in Colorado and started to climb up some switchbacks today. As soon as I accelerated after my second turn I noticed the bike give out for a second and then proceed back. I then starred at the RPM gauge and 10 seconds later it does it again. RPMs drop completely to 0 before the bike continues back at normal RPM range. I pulled over and was headed back. After getting back to flat ground, I saw random drops again, with a reduction of power. I naturally wanted to hold the clutch in to stop the jerking of the bike as it drops power and gets it back when it would become sporadic. After holding down the clutch like this, the bike would die, this happened three or four times. I also noticed back firing with this behavior.

Any ideas on what could be going on?

Dont be a dumb AZ, happens while riding.
Like ich sad Crank position sensor, posible ignition module failing but Id chance a crank sensor on it

Yep, dumb... Saw rpm drops and loss of power and just skimmed the rest, carry on....

I mean, I was just saying it's always good to check your seals....should be a memo...

I would agree on the crank sensor too, gauge goes to zero because it lost signal, lost power for that second because the map went to 0rpm, dies when you pull the clutch because it looses power and stalls, and doesn't have the moving bike to restart it....

before you mess with the sensors...check your spark plug to coil connections, mine backed off enough to cause the same issue. check the simple things first before diving into it deeper. the rate at which these bikes shake, something is bound to come loose and cause an issue or two. just my 2 cents...
