Loud exhaust ticket

Well I just got my first loud exhaust ticket with my hawk exhaust. Cop was a real dick. Anyone think I should fight it? Any chances I would win? The ticket is for 97$ lol. All opinions greatly appreciated.

Check out what the law or regulation he charged you under says, here in Ontario the Highway Traffic Act says that all that is required for it to be proven is that the Officer thinks your exhaust is too loud and that it be any muffler other that the stock one which came on the bike. In other words around here if you have an aftermarket exhaust and a cop thinks it sounds too loud he can give you a ticket and no Justice of the Peace (they hear most traffic Act Offenses here in Ontario) will find you innocent. There are no maximum dB or SPL mandated as yet, though various Municipalities are recently passing by-laws with them.

So before you spend the time and money to fight it make sure you have a leg to stand on…

Well here in Iowa he said its the officers discretion if the sound is too loud. They don't have a certain DB level. He told me if I want to fight it to bring my bike with me on the court date and the judge will come out and listen for himself. And no I wasn't being a 6k rpm asshole I was doing 25mph in third barely any throttle.

And the hawk exhaust is the stock muffler. It's stamped right on the bottom. Lol

I wonder if it will make a difference since it is a modified version of the stock exhaust as compared to a completely different after market system.

Find someone with a stock exhaust, put it on there, go to court and prove it the "factory" exhaust! Simple!! lol

On the bottom of the pipe I believe it says buell or something like that. I have been past cops before at 6k in second and didn't get pulled over and this time was basicly coasting so I dunno.

See I dunno if I could change the exhaust out because he pulled me over then faced the side of my bike and I know he recorded the whole thing. They dashcam everything in this town. And he got down and even looked at it close up. I have the hawk with single 3" outlet

it says "unauthorized exhaust" i would take that to mean a non factory or non inspection compliant exhaust. i would ask the cop for his inspection license. or go to a shop, get them to write you a letter saying it passes inspection. It just sucks for the average rider because having a car and bike inspection license is so nice. when i cop pulls you over and says "this isnt legal blah blah blah" you pull out your inspection license and politely tell him to fuck himself
