And how does he know it was an unauthorized exhaust? Don't the stockers have the D.O.T. stamp on them?

Unless you told him it had been modified, that should get thrown out if the stamp is still there.

Had a similar experience here back in the 80's but it was on my 1973 Dodge Charger,put some Hush Thrush mufflers on it and the next thing I know the police are telling me they are illegal,well they were not in Alabama but they are in the small town I live in so it came out in a draw,if you decide to fight your ticket make sure to research every bit of it.

Does anyone have a xb9 exhaust taken off and can post a pic of the stamp on the bottom? I can't get a good pic of mine because I have no way to lift my bike right now. If I'm not mistaken it says it's DoT compliant and has the DB right on it. Reason I want to fight the ticket is so hopefully I can keep my exhaust and avoid more tickets. And again I don't ride around engine and exhaust screaming like an ass.

I have the dealer installed factory racecan. We do not have vehicle inspections any longer here in Oklahoma but if I were ticketed I would pay it and move on.

I am only accountable for myself. I can't worry if someone else is legal or not. My daddy taught me to not worry about what everyone else was getting away with. If you play you pay.

I was ticketed for green LED's once in my car. It was $185.00. I knew they were illegal. I took them off. Everyone to this day has colored lights all over their vehicles and seem to be getting away with it...

I can't afford tickets all the time and I can't worry with why others get away with it. I'm a man and I need to move on.

I completely agree but the problem here is that my exhaust is not that loud and it was just about at idle when I passed him and he pulled me over. I don't think I should have to buy a stock can.

I hear you Kab but it is gonna be the polices dicretion. I mean even if you fight it and win could he not just ticket you the next time he sees you? Then what would you say? Maybe if you just pay it and ride a different route all things will get better.

I do not think you should have to buy another muffler either. IN fact I hope you do not. My racecan is not at all loud compared to some but I could still be ticketed. The muffler does not conform to city or highway standards. Mine is stamped track use only though.

I wished I could tell you an easy way out but there isn't one.

This is true... My FMF has been directly next to the driver's side window of several police cars in traffic before, the cops don't even flinch. In this state it is essentially a status symbol to have a Harley with open pipes... nobody cares.

If a cop pulls you over consistently for the same thing and you can prove it's not illegal it becomes a harassment case, if you start documenting each time they do. I actually have a friend that got a restraining order against a police department because of an issue like that.

A cop can lose their badge for things like that

about a month ago i got my truck out and took it for a drive. a well worked supercharged 360 running out of just headers. loud as hell! there was a cop about 1/2 mile down the road from a stop sign that i did a small burnout leaving. he had to have heard it but even if not i passed his hiding spot, well placed i might ad, in 3rd gear about 3,000 rpms and he never bothered me. that i was surprised about. but when i got home and decided to take the bike to my girlfriends house he pulled me over for a loud muffler. on a full stock xb9r. how the hell does that happen? at this i bacame pissed and asked him why he didnt pull "my buddies" truck over that i was riding in and passed him (that way he didnt try to go after me for that now) and pulles over a stock bike. he tried giving me a loud exaust ticket and i told him if he did give it to me i was going to make him look like an ass in court. sure enough i did just that. i guess dome cops just do not like bikes and enjoy trying to be a dick to their owners.
