recently purchased a like new one owner Uly with 2900 miles on it. i installed hawk muffler, NGK irid plugs, changed all fluids and installed some soft luggage, and breather re-route. bike is wonderful to ride, exceptionally comfortable and i couldn't be happier except for low speed surging/leanness. it idles perfectly, very smooth at any RPM in any gear above about 2000rpm. but in low gears at low throttle and low speeds, the surging is quite annoying and makes smooth throttle modulation a real chore. anybody else experience this? i only have a PC and no laptop so guess remap of ECM out of question for me unless you can remove ECM from bike and have someone tune it. any help and thoughts appreciated.

First off, what year is the bike and where are you located? If it's 08+, you can do the TPS reset without a computer.

If there's anybody close by, maybe they can help you out/meet you halfway and connect up ECMSpy - maybe a static timing check is needed as well.

A breather reroute seems to help a lot of people as well.

bike is 2007 built in june/2007. as mentioned, did the breather, tried the TPS reset. it's just a tad lean at low rpm's and small throttle openings. anyone near Amish country, PA....Lancaster County....that might be able to help? thanks much

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Make shure your plug leads are 100%. I found slight damage on the front one. Also put some electrical contact grease on the connection plugs for the timing and fuell injection under the air cleaner. Hope it helps.

under 2000 rpms i would think minor surging would be pretty normal. I could be wrong but every harley powered bike ive ever riden did it a little @ low speed and rpms. does make them tricky to ride in traffic. Maybe a breather re-route would clean it up some i just did mine but havent rode it yet.

check the intake seals with some propane or carb spray
what do u look for with this test anrkizm? solvent seaping thru the gaskets??? i should prolly check mine.

that's exactly my experience. i did the breather reroute, alot of new things, very low mileage stock bike, wires and all are perfect. i think it's just the nature of the beast that makes them tricky or skittish in low speed traffic. thanks for the replies.

you have to entirely remove the airbox cover, complete airbox, then reattach the air temp plug. but ya, if you spray the intake manifold at front and rear head mounts with carb cleaner or any flammable spray like that, and motor speeds up, you have intake leak.

a small propane torch with a long hose on it run the propane along the intake seals and listen for an idle change.
