Due to the lack of luggage options for the XB, last year I opted to build my own hard case luggage racks. I built a set for my SS and my girlfriends SS that has an S tail. I posted some photos in another luggage thread and got some interest in building racks for other XB owners. The racks use Seahorse SE-720 cases and are made from steel. The cases are able to be attached and removed individually and lock into place. They are very strong. I dropped my XB12SS at around 55mph and slid approximately 100 feet. The cases took only minimal damage and are still fully functional. The luggage rack and the rear end of the bike were undamaged. I built these racks for a 2500 mile trip through Canada and was able to easily carry all my gear, clothing and camping supplies for the trip. I would guess I had 100+ pounds of gear.

I'm looking to see if enough people have interest in these to make manufacturing cost productive. I think I would ask $700 plus shipping. I would need a $300 deposit to minimize my financial risk and then as soon as your racks are ready to ship I would ship them out after receiving the remainder owed. The racks would come either unpainted or painted with cheap black paint included in the price. I can also drop them at the local powder coater and have them powder coated a color of your choice for what ever they charge – if interested I'll go talk to them about prices.

Here is a link to the Seahorse cases. I see no reason I wouldn't be able to make these with Pelican cases but the price would increase accordingly. I feel the Seahorse cases performed as well as the Pelican cases would for nearly a third the price. I've owned both Seahorse & Pelican cases and IMHO Seahorse cases have better price to value.

A couple color options for the cases are Black, Gunmetal Gray, Safety Yellow and Orange.
I'm not marking up the prices on the cases so if you wanted Pelican the price would be the difference between the cases.

This is what I did in place of the top case on my girls bike.

Are you asking $700 for the while setup including the cases? Just figured I'd ask so there'd be no confusion. Thanks for the info and thanks for the pics as well. Looks like a great setup for sure!

Yes 700 + shipping for whole setup. Cases, racks, signals, latches, mounting hardware and some kind of reasonable priced black paint. powder coat extra.

If someone wanted the metal basket rack thing, it would be the same price. more steel but one less case.

For the paint I will probably get single stage automotive paint. So it should hold up pretty well.

Looks great! I have a chopped tail, so it looks like I would need a different configuration for my Buell...

I did mine that way because i had not chopped the tail yet. Almost all the strength is on the passenger peg bolts. If you unbolt everything attached to the tail it barely makes any difference as far as i can tell. I can do the same set up on a chopped tail by attaching support to the two bolts on the bottom of the tail where it meets the inner fender.
