I bought my Buell about a year ago and haven't really done any maintenance on it. I bought it from the dealer with 500 miles on it. I changed my engine and trans oil, along with the filters at 1000 miles and again at 3500. I used the best synthetic oil, and filters I could find. But thats it. I havent had the tps reset, or the timing on the valves checked(excuse me if I'm using the wrong terms) or any of that. She runs great, no problems (knock, knock). Is that ok or should i take it to have it serviced at some point?

I would take it in for the 5000 mile service just to have everything checked and reset, just to ensure that its running at optimum performance.

Probably a good idea. What do they do for that service? I guess I'm just affraid to mess with a good thing. I've heard of reliability issues with some of these bikes...and i'm affraid once its played with it will start acting up. No reason for me to thnk that i guess.

Change all fluids, check all major fasteners, reset and zero TPS, check belt tension, check primary chain tension, check clutch adjustment, lube all cables, check brakes, check air filter, check battery, road test....

Sounds worth while. I'll do that soon. Thanks.

On another subject...If you wanted just a little more power from your bike and could only do one engine mod, what would it be? I'd like just a little extra umph sometimes. Nothing drastic. I've swaped the exhaust already.

Like a jet kit...something like that? What type of mod are you talking about? Are there links on here on air box mods?

for the service, i would do everything but the tps reset.
why? aslong as everything is running smooth, there's really no need for it.

all and all, it's really just a check of everything you can do yourself if you have the manual.

that little extra with 1 mod is really tough to say, if you don't know what you already have installed.

Service Manual,
ECMSpy and Cable,
Lots of reading,
And youll never take it to a shop again.. save you thousands and youll know your bike.. :) just my two cents..

I really haven't done anything to my bike except change the exhaust can to a Jardine...but thats it. I'm just looking for a little more umph.

I did run down the service manual checklist and did everything I felt comfortable with.

As far as the ECMSpy and Cable...I thought about getting that...but though it may seem easy for others...I have a feeling I would butcher the settings on my bike. I'd end up changing the air/fuel mixture to 50/50 or something. I'm still thinking about it...but still think that should be left up to people who have a clue. We'll see.
