Wow, I'm surprised to see all the positive and interested comments! Glad to know I'm not the only Pred fan out there lol. If reincarnation were real, and it may be, I'm definitely asking God to come back as a Predator!
Onto the comments and questions:
I originally planned to use the old visor and just shave it down and blend it into the opening, but then it would be fixed and I wouldn't be able to put on my shades. So, I'm leaving it open in order to put my shades on and get a breeze since all the vents are now clogged.
Extra weight. Yes, that is also a concern of mine, especially since my Cr puts me out over the handle bars more than I'm used to with the Clubman bars. I really don't think it will be that bad. After the clay dried, it lightened up a little. I put the 1st layer of fiberglass on it today. Wow! People that are good at fiberglassing, my hat off to you. This is my 1st time to do it and it was tricky to get going. Took me a few tries to get a decent combo of resin and hardener without it hardening up within a few minutes. The recommended 10 drops of hardener per 1oz of resin was drying up way too quick for me. Went through a lot of paint brushes lol. Anyone who can give me some advice on this would be much appreciated! I got a good 1st layer on and will begin sanding it down tomorrow and apply the next couple coats. I tried it on a few minutes after coming home from work to get an idea how it will look and it didn't feel terribly heavy. IMHO, it does look pretty sweet, and I don't mean to boast lol. Either way, I'm a gym rat, so this is just a way to get a stronger neck! lol
I plan to use bondo over the fiberglass to smooth everything and give it some extra strength. I've never used it before either, so we'll see how that goes. After bondo, I'll shoot some different shades of gray and silver on it until I find a nice Predator shade. I'm going to mask off the back and paint the front and cheek areas with silver only and then shoot the rest black in order to give it a "face plate" look as the original Pred helmet. Remember, the helmet is only the front piece, not his entire head [up]
I will update pics after I finish the final fiberglass layer, another after the bondo, and then the final. Hope it turns out good!
