I got my bike put back together and took it out for a ride...all was fine until the bike warmed up. If I slowed or stopped it would die when I tried to take off, if I restart the bike and give it very little gas I could get it going again, and it would shutter and hiccup at any speed if i gave it more gas from any speed or constant rpm, it seems like maybe the coil is breaking down when warm. I replaced the spark plugs, and did a tps reset to no avail...HELP!!

I did a data log today and at the end of the ride when it started missing real bad off of idle the log shows spark1 smooth and spark2 is all over the graph...can anybody look at my log and tell me what they think?

i have an xb coil layin around somewhere you can have if i can find it. just pay for shipping

Summarized from the service manual:

1. Using Ohm-meter, measure resistance of front/rear plug wires. Resistance should be between 1.4k and 3.3k ohms.

2. Using Ohm-meter, measure resistance of primary and secondary coil windings.

Primary: Measure resistance between the two outer contacts (there's three contacts inside the connector). Resistance should be between 0.5 to 0.7 ohms.

Secondary: Measure resistance between the two plug wire connectors (outputs) on the sides of the coil. Resistance should be between 5.5k to 7.5k.

Additionally, I'd pull the suspected plug and check for a cracked insulator, which can cause the same symptoms you describe (worse or noticeable after bike is warmed up/hot).

Check all your plug/ignition cables for good connection on re-assembly. I've seen plug cables that didn't have a tight fit on the coil and would vibrate loose, causing the associated cylinder to drop at certain RPMs. Inspect the plug boot end of the wire to make sure that the plug cable didn't break internally and separate from the plug connection.

I checked all the grounds, and everything looks good. I was wondering if anyone knows when your veiwing a log in megalog and the spark1 and spark2 goes crazy and drops off like it does...is it telling me the spark actually dropped or is it somthing else telling the spark to do so?? After looking at the log better both spark1 and spark2 are doing exactly the same thing.

The title of your post says you think you might need a new coil, indicating that you suspect it might be bad. I responded with a procedure to check your coil. How'd that check go?

Is there anything else that would make the bike go to shit when it warms up??
crank,iat,tps sensor ecm,fuel pump,coil,bad connection at temp.

test the coil and confirm or eliminate it

I was playing around with ECMSPY tonight anf wonder if anybody else finds it weird that after a 10min trip on a 70 degree day my engine temp was still reading 23 degrees c..which is about 75.2 degrees f....seems kinda cold to me

It's not missing on #2...when it warms up it pretty much looks like it's dropping spark on both cylinders...the
spark adv. for both cyls is in the 40 degree range, all this seems wrong!
