I recently brought my 07 xb12r to the Harley Dealer in order to replace the voltage regulator. Maybe a week after that, I've experienced some weird electrical thing on my bike: While riding some times the check engine went up, the speedometer did a test (it was like I was turning the bike on but while riding); the bike stalled. I've just restarted the bike (with the ignition button) and something back to normal riding. The time on the speedometer reset itself to 1:00.

Maybe some of you guys have experienced the same, probably you could help me to find out the glith!!!

Best regards,

Have you checked the grounds and looked for shorts? What was the bike doing to make you have the voltage reg replaced?

Thanks Browland for your reply

weeks ago, my bike just stalled with no lights, no nothing. I recharged the battery and againg after rindg and left the bike at work, againg no lights no nothing. So I took it to the dealer and they changed the regulator which was damaged.

Best regards,

I would start with an mA draw test to start as well as visually inspecting your ground wires best to rule out the simple stuff...

remove the negative battery cable take a multimeter set to measure mA put one side on the cable then the other on the negative terminal should be under .16 if I'm not mistaken you can check the manual for sure, the grounds are also in the manual I beleive

I had similar problems on my 03 XB9, stalling, no battery power left, and after recharge and battery check (battery was good) same thing happened again. I checked the power output on the stator and it was ok at 38 volts AC, so I naturally changed out the regulator as I was only getting 11.5 volts at the battery (had a spare regulator lying around). Still the same problem. Since the regulator itself is what bleeds excess voltage to the frame, I suspected that there was a bad ground, and took off the regulator and ground all the paint off from around the mounting holes. Fired her up, and now I get 14.5 volts and no issues.

Check how clean your regulator ground is.
