Drained the trans fluid today and examination of the magnetic drain plug revealed quite a bit of metallic debris. I'm concerned, would you be? If this is as bad as I think it is, where should I start looking for worn parts?

That's why there is a magnetic plug. It will look like that for the first few fluid changes and calm down after a few miles are on her.

Yeah, bike has 28,000 on it. I bought it right before Christmas and haven't ridden it except to test ride and warm it up for the fluid change yesterday. I don't know how long the trans fluid was in there, PO says he had just changed fluids but, well, you know how PO's can be... Bike is very hard to get into neutral and there's almost no play in the clutch. Those things in mind, this debris on the mag plug concerned me.

If it's very hard to get into neutral and the clutch has no play, you may need to 1) adjust the clutch cable and 2) adjust the slack in the primary chain. The stuff on the primary drain plug is normal....make sure your engine oil drain plug is clean!

You'll want to be concerned if there's chunks in there, but small particulate like in your pic is normal...

Many thanks for the reassurance... I wiped the plug off with a clean shotgun patch and found that the debris is all just fine pieces like you'd see with metal filings. I'll watch it and change the oils a little early next time just to be sure.
