It's more like someone hitting an empty pipe, not an anvil... sounds something like *klonk-klonk-klonk* in a rapid rate. Going to take off my muffler tomorrow and see if there's something loose in it. I hope it's only my muffler making that sound...
 
keep us posted on what you find...ive had the same exact noise for over a year now and havnt been able to find the cause
 
Possilble Wrist pin or the rod. When you removed the head did you check the rockers for play? If you still have it apart check every area for play.Any changes to the ECM of any sort?The plugs wires? does it idle properly and if you take it up in Rpms with no load on Engine is it quite?Just curious cause I just remanned an 06 XB12 and it was the rod. Replaced every thing the Customer let me to get it running properly.Never seen Bikes that did this that early in the Engines life cycle.Damn!*Jimi
 
When you say you looked at various engine parts, do you mean you measured those parts (valves, rings) for actual wear?

Detonation will be felt as well as heard.

93 should be good.
