I am very close to buying a Ulysses(dealer will fix recall items before purchase). I am concerned about the occasional comments from owners about heat build up on right side of bike and leg. Does anyone who owns the bike have any comments regarding this possible issue. If true, it's a terrible design flaw and I won't get the bike. Oh yeah, I live and ride in hotFlorida. No mag reviews mention the heat issue (surprise). I've already read about putting insulated tape on the header as a small fix, if it's a problem. Thanks for any feedback.

All the XB models get hot on the right leg but you wont notice it when you are moving. I ride in Nassau, Bahamas which is just as hot as Florida and have no problems. Its never bothered me enough to want to wrap the headers or any other shit like that.

It's part of the Buell charm. The left side scoop directs air across the rear head and out the right side under your leg. It gets a bit toasty, but that's just what it does. Not really a problem.

I'd certainly agree - I wouldn't even notice the excess heat on my '06 Ulysses unless I paid close attention to it.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like the Buell is for me. I'm looking forward to a serious upgrade from my KLR-650 dual sport which left the paved road, um, twice. Both times intentional. I'm more into road-trippin and the Uly looks good for that, and the occasional off-road trek.

I've owned a klr 650 and my '09 Ulysses xb 12 xt and the difference will blow your mind! Like they're from two different planets. The KLR is a great bike but you won't get too much adrenalin flowing like with the Buell.

zippy: buy it. may be the most fun bike you've ever owned. if it is totally stock i suggest the following for heat relief:
add comfort kit right side inner and outer scoop
add comfort kit header guard
stay out of florida stop and go traffic
never wear shorts or if you do.....rap a wet rag around your right inner thigh.
i own 3 ulysses....ride them whenever possible but without the above they are brutal in anything above 80 degrees. IMO

Consider it a gift for those cool Florida mornings...:p
It really isn't too bad with the comfort kit described above.
I installed the whole kit, although some only install some of it.
Either way it will help, and as you'll be moving most of the time it shouldn't be an issue.
Enjoy your new ride!

Nicholas900 called it, Zippy's long gone. For the record, my friend tells me his water cooled R1 cooks him in traffic, too and our Heritage Softail gets mighty toasty as well. It's a bike; avoid stop and go traffic and ride it out on the open road would be my advice to any future Zippy's lurking out there.
