I am thinking of deleting my mirrors bc I don't use them anyway. Anyone in Florida have any problems from the cops bc of deleted mirrors? Do they even notice?

I've been pulled over twice since I laid my bike down at the Dragon in April for no mirrors. Fortunately I do have one semi functional bar end that I guess isn't noticed and as per statute 316.294 only one is required so I was let off both times.
In short I have a mirror and get pulled over for it, if I had no mirrors I'd have at least 2 tickets in one month time.

Besides the fact of being illegal mirrors are an essential part of your motorcycle. While riding you need to be aware of your surroundings this includes behind you. Safety over aesthetics.

What about that guy who doesn't notice you stoped at that red light due to texting, kids misbehaving, etc... ?

Just my $.02

While I completely agree with FlaXB9R, I have to say that all you could do is see it coming...you couldn't react.

I just moved to Florida a little while ago and it seems the po-po are a bit relaxed around here. No mirrors on my bike and I was splitting lanes for 8 months before I found out it's not legal here[down].

Florida is typically relaxed on the laws, but yeah I completely agree with FlaX. And yes you can react in time to someone behind you, I've done it.

It's also nice having mirrors when a muffler is tumbling down the road in front of you and you've got 3 bikes behind you.

I'd beg to differ. I always watch any vehicles approaching while stopped at a red light. If you give yourself an out and are paying attention you could avoid some situations. If the bikes in gear and you give youself an out and can tell the car is not decreasing speed by watching him approach I like my odds of escaping rather than not even knowing.

LOL yes I was very glad to have mirrors at this moment!

If I am behind other cars at a light I am in the far outside of position 1 or 3 in gear watching cars come up behind me ready to make moves.

Saying you have no time to react means you are in neutral letting your hand rest because it has worked out too hard downshifting, and making sure the cars at the light next to you are checking your bike out...

I really only use my mirrors when I am sitting at a stop light.. while riding I just look behind me.. XB mirrors are small and I cant see very much in them anyway.. Im kinda getting sick of them to tell the truth..

Lol don't get me wrong I look behind at lights as well and I always ride on the edges of the lane at lights and I also only hit neutral once the car behind me has stopped but I still doubt you could react in time...maybe I'm wrong....never had to do it...I also split lanes in Texas illegally but usually only at lights. I just cant see realizing the difference in speed between decreasing and not and being able to jump out if the way. Even in a car you can watch behind you and you still only know its coming once you hear the tires chirping.

And to Insist I slap it In neutral and worry about the cars around me without ever even riding with me...wow lol.

Loosen up mang. :)

I was teasing, I actually ride with someone that always puts it in neutral at every light.

I just dont understand saying I never use my mirrors, I use them the whole time I am riding and driving. i like to be aware of my surroundings.

I would rather have a chance to act than not ever see it coming.

Oh I agree, I had 0 mirrors for a short period but it's just akward for me, I ride with one bar end that provides excellent view back and left....right is sufficient.

My bad I may have overreacted, I feel like this forum sometimes gets into a dick measuring contest on who is the safest rider I.E. our general viewpoint towards wearing gear...

Accept my apologies... [smirk]

I mean the OP was asking about the general knowledge about cops in Florida and their reaction to a mirrorless motorcycle. Not asking for advice on how to ride his m/c.

No need to apologize, I do my fair share of picking sometimes I just cant help myself. I just tell the way I feel, if it comes across as being the safest/ coolest/ whateverest...I dont mean it that way.
