Sorry to post this here, but I really don't like other forums. It is that simple, plus you guys know everything.

I am looking to buy a new car. It is a 2004 G35 with vortech supercharger on it.

I know nothing about modified cars or FI modifications but want to learn. One thing bothers me is that this car is an automatic. Can a stock auto transmission handle more power? I am not sure exactly how much it is putting down but the range goes from 325-400 I think. What do I need to know? I want a long life out of this car- I assume I could get a smaller pulley somewhere to decrease superchargers FI (I don't want to unless engine life is suffering)?

Also, it has stock exhaust- seems like this might be a problem when it has more pressure coming out than stock.

The fact that its auto just means that the people couldnt drive stick or they drive in traffic.
did they do any other work? odds are the the supercharger wont prematurely end the life of the motor. sounds like a nice car.

a smaller pulley on the supercharger will make it spool faster. one thing i would make sure that the injectors were upgraded and the car is tuned for the supercharger not just a base tune someone threw out there. also i hear that with the base stuff they handle the power pretty good so you shouldnt have any issues. i think with those engines they are reliable untill you get over 500 whp

Yup go over it with a fine tooth comb. Then if you buy it your first 2 stops should be changing all the fluids and having her tuned professionally. I trust no one!

Depending on how much boost it is pushing you want to replace the full exhaust, ignition system, and upgrade the fuel delivery. If you max out the injectors you will kill the motor by pushing to much air and not enough fuel.

It is always safest to keep the boost low and within your daily needs. You can upgrade whats above and run lower boost and just swap pulleys for track days or for days you feel like a little extra fun.

If the guy has 25k on the SC kit it was probably installed right, most guys blow the motor within the first couple thousand miles if things are done right.

If you want the car for long life I would look elsewhere. If you dont know much about FI you will now be at the mercy of taking it to a shop. Now that its not stock you will have to find a good shop that knows their sh!t and since its customized you may have longer downtime since its not stock will take longer to diagnose and it may costs more to fix. If you want a supercharged car try and look for something that is supercharged from the factory because the rest of the car was designed to compliment the supercharger. You can find alot of nice cars a few years old that will be at 325-400 hp. Not sure what you are looking to spend but my car is stock supercharged with an Eaton blower and has a little over 400 with a few small mods.

Also along with everything else that has been said the motor in the g35 isn't setup to run with boost. That extra boost will create more pressure inside the pistons putting more strain on the rings. If the weren't regapped or changed for different one it might get some blow by in the next 1000-7000 miles. It could led to engine failure. But on the other hand if I'm not mistaken the g35 has the same motor that the 350z has which is the VQ series motors which can handle a decent amount of power. So it's tuff to say if it will last a while or not. Just be sure to check everything out carefully. Best of luck.

I deal with a lot of auto shops for work and I have seen 2 g35's in a shop both had vortech s/c and both were getting new motors. The motors in those cars cannot handle the pressure of the supercharger, they always blow up. One of the cars is on it 3rd motor and now the owner has finally decided to get a custom motor built to handle the s/c. I would personally stay away.

50 K miles, last 25 with forced induction, it's ready for a rebuild, rings and valve springs, if nothing else, can you say "Dropped Intake Valve"

I am on my350z.com it is a great place for info just search the site there is more than enough helpful info on there.

FI is a headache on a non FI car, unless you have endless funds.
