Just when I think I get all my issues fixed another one pops up. I have posted a few threads recently (mainly since the weather in northern Wisconsin is starting to cooperate) about my bike.

I have a 2000 Cyclone that I purchased last spring. The bike ran well until last fall when I cracked the header. This lead me to taking the bike apart to fix a few things, but also caused a wiring problem (my fault) that lead to replacing the regulator/rectifier. I made a few changes to the tail light and flashers, replaced the headlight and windscreen. Now a new problem developed.

The bike starts and idles fine and rides nice for a little while. Usually on my way to town, which is about 5 miles, the bike spits and sputters and will eventually just shut off. Once I pull over and come to a stop the bike will start back up again and go for a little ways again before it happens again.

I have searched past threads trying to diagnose this so I don't bother you guys especially if this has been answered. The only thing that I've found that seems close to my problem suggests resetting the "tps?" Does anybody have any other suggestions?

I own a 99 Cyclone and I was having the same issue more or less, I would start checking the ignition system. I don't know the specifics of your problem but I assume that you (like me) pulled in the clutch and opened the throttle to try to save it. Then once it dies you shut off the key, turn it back on and fires right up. I'm fairly sure it's the ignition module in certain M2's but other than mine and yours I've never heard of this problem before either. Other than that I'm not buying a new part until I can properly diagnose it and I suggest you do the same.

Usually the iginition switch is the problem. If it didnt start right back up you could carry a spare spark plug to use as a diy test to see if its getting spark. Just unplug one plug wire and hook it to your test plug ground it and turn over motor while watching for a spark.

Do the cyclones have a kickstand safety switch? I know that is common issue with x1s. If you do have one you can jump the 2 wires to close the circuit. That's what the symptoms sound like possibly.

My issue actually was the venting tube on the gas cap was being pinched. I rerouted the tube and I'm good to go.

Yes definitely enjoy those fixes!! Unfortunately my next fix I don't think will be as easy. Thanks for everybody's help!
